Could be a number of reasons, may have a bad cord, If the switch is on the hose, it may have gone bad. Could even be a motor problem. Needs to checked to find the problem.

Trying to replace brushes on a Progressive Vacuum that is appx. 5 years old. The actual brush appears to be a copper brush. However, the replacement part now available under Sear's part 4370655 is now a carbon brush (good), but the brush is larger and the mounting will in no way fit on or in the motor housing. I am assuming that, since they can't afford to stock parts for older versions of their product, I am out of luck. Are there any other possibilites?
Also: 4-5 years on a vacuum cleaner motor/brush. Is that the new standard? We don't even have pets.
Thanks.

I want to replace the brushes in my vacuum motor. Kenmore Model 116.23812300. The part number for the brushes are #4370655. I have located the brushes at Sears but will not order until I figure how to get motor out. I have the top off and can view the motor and cord retractor. I just can't figure out how to pull the motor to view the bushes. How do I pull and replace the motor from the canister? I am assuming the brushes are easily located and replaceable.
