I had the same problem and is not that hard...maybe the only difference is that i have a xv-ev7 pioneer home theater, but this probably is gonna work for ya. So, when the timer is blinking wait for a few seconds and then turn it on and inmediatly push the timer button. that should work. if not, grab a hammer and...well u know!!

I'm sorry i dont think i can be specific enough on this problem to help,
the only hting that occurs to me straight away (assuming its not actually a faulty system), is that the tuner and timer need to be set up. the instructions for this should be in the manual, also i dont know for sure, but check on the back of the unit to see if a back up battery is required to store settings.
alternatively it shounds like an IC programming problem where for some reason an EEPROM on the IC has dumped its program and it it needs to be reprogrammed, there is probably no way to get that fixed without going back to the shop.
one final possibility is that you should disconnect the inputs and outputs and power it up and see if the problem is reproduced. reconnect them one at a time and power up again.

there is a possibility that an input is either connected incorrectly and giving the sytem a overload and causing it to shut down or an output has a short circuit that when the system is powedred up the current drain is pulling it down. so if its an out put check for daaged cbles. if its an input say audio sources such as TV HDTV the cable is wrong.

hope the troubleshooting tips help you out.

On a pioneer xv-dv8 home theatre timer light flashes and the unit will not switch on.

I found the manual here:

http://www.pioneer-latin.com/downloads/xrb3033a.pdf

This their recommendation for your exact symptom:

Timer indicator is blinking and the system will not switch on.

• Unplug the system, then plug back in. Wait for one minute then switch on.

• Make sure the fan at the rear of the system unit is not being blocked.

• Check that the speakers are connected correctly.

• Make sure the voltage of the mains power source is correct for the model.

• If the problem persists, take it to your nearest Pioneer authorized service center or your dealer for servicing.

5 disc tray opens and then shuts

Your problem could be one of three differnt things. It could be that the open close switch on the front has a bit of resistance to it, sand when you press it the switch starts to conduct and then the machine thinks someone has pressed the open/close switch again, or there are a set of small switches inside the unit that the door makes contact with when it reaches the end of the travel lenth, that is binding or broken, or there is a problem with the switch or microprocessor circuitry that is affecting the open close command. The correct repair procedture would to be to get a service manual and trace out these devices that I have just described.
