Hi, by default the Linksys router is set to DHCP... So all you have to do is connect an ethernet cable from your modem to the WAN/Internet port of the router and then connect a PC to one of the ports, see if that will be able to connect to the Internet if not, try to do a power cycle (turned off everything and then turn on the modem first and wait for all the lights to be stable and turn on the router and then the PC) once the computer gets online you may connect the rest... should you require to connect more than 4 PCs, you may need to have a switch but with this setup the physical connection should be

Modem to WAN port of the Router to Switch port and all PC should be connected to the Switch's ports

How to turn on a dhcp on a rca model dcm425 cable modem?

Hi there,
Enabling DHCP at the Client To enable the Windows NT DHCP client, you must log on as administrator at the Windows NT client.

Normally, you enable DHCP as part of the installation procedure for Microsoft TCP/IP, however, you can use this procedure if you have manually configured TCP/IP:
  1. Run Control Panel and choose Network.

The Network Settings dialog box appears.
  2. Under Installed Network Software, select TCP/IP Protocol and then choose configure.

The TCP/IP configuration dialog box appears.
  3. Select Enable Automatic DHCP Configuration.

A Microsoft (MS) TCP/IP message appears, indicating that the DHCP Protocol attempts to configure the server automatically during system initialization.
  4. Choose Yes.

A MS TCP/IP Configuration dialog box appears, displaying current TCP/IP configuration parameters. The IP Address and Subnet Mask boxes are not available (grayed out) and the manually configured values are no longer displayed.
  5. Choose OK to return to the Network Settings dialog box.
  6. Choose OK again.
  7. Shut down and restart the computer.
To enable DHCP on a Windows for Workgroups client if TCP/IP is not installed yet:
  1. Use Network Setup to install the MS TCP/IP-32 3.11 protocol.
  2. In the MS TCP/IP Configuration dialog box, select the Enable Automatic DHCP Configuration check box, and choose Continue.
  3. Restart the computer to initialize TCP/IP using DHCP.
To enable DHCP on a Windows for Workgroups client if TCP/IP is installed:
  1. To access the Network Drivers dialog box, run Network Setup.
  2. Select Microsoft TCP/IP-32 3.11, and then choose Setup.
  3. In the MS TCP/IP Configuration dialog box, select the Enable Automatic DHCP Configuration check box, and choose continue.

A message box appears indicating that the configuration of DHCP overrides any values established locally.
  4. Choose Yes.
  5. To initialize TCP/IP using DHCP information, restart the computer.

DHCP Server configuration in Linux

Linux is a UNIX based operating system. It is a server operating system. REDHAT Linux is Enterprise version of Linux. Now a day's Most of corporate sectors use red hat Linux as server in their company because it is secure very much.

Full form of DHCP "Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol. DHCP server assigns IP addresses and other network configuration information like subnet mask, broadcast address, etc to computers on a network. The DHCP assignments are the following.

Lease Request: Client broadcasts their request to DHCP server with a source address of 0.0.0.0 and a destination address of 255.255.255.255.
IP lease offer: DHCP server replies with an IP address, subnet mask, network gateway, name of the domain, name servers, duration of the lease and the IP address of the DHCP server.

Lease Selection: Client receives offer and broadcasts to al DHCP servers that will accept given offer so that other DHCP server need not make an offer.

The DHCP server then sends an ack to the client. The client is configured to use TCP/IP. Lease Renewal: When half of the lease time has expired, the client will issue a new request to the DHCP server.

Installation of DHCP server: First of all while install the RedHat Linux enterprise version server be careful about the ports and the services must be turned on. To create DHCP server in Linux first download DHCP RPM package and install with "rpm-ivh" command. Where I have done it there I have create YUM server, so easily I have download and install it by YUM (yum install dhcp version). DHCP package will locate in /usr/share/doc/at Linux file system. I copied the DHCP's files from /usr/share/doc/ to /etc/dhcpd.conf.. Then I started to configure the dhcpd.conf file to route the DHCP server in there local network. I have open the configuration file with "vi" command. Then commented out the lines from "default gateway to option netbios" because system don't read the commented lines. After that I set the range of IP address in dynamic- bootp of their local assumption of system. I have change the "next-server" with the dhcp server name and have also change the fixed address with the dhcp server IP address (end range of dynamic IP). It is very easy job to configure DHCP server. After configure the .conf file of dhcp just turn on the service with "chkconfig" command and restart the dhcp service. After that entire job I reboot the system. And after rebooting of server I turned on the other client system. While startup the client system without static IP address all of those picked up IP from dhcp server and going on successfully. I have prefer the command line mode to do the total job.
The DHCP server configure file is following:

ddns-update-style interim
ignore client-updates

subnet 192.168.1.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 {
# The range of IP addresses the server

We have a DHCP problem with our thin client HP T5540, the network interface can't get an ip address fom the DHCP server for 30 seconds so it can't connect to citrix xen serverver for virtualization...

First of all check the configuration of the unit if it's AUTOMATIC IP/DHCP, if all OK you can test by configuring a static IP (use an unused IP in the server's DHCP table) than check the connectivity (ping something), if that works you have a server rule/DHCP or DNS problem

if it's still not working check the cabeling and connectors for connectivity (with a good cable tester) or an other (working) computer.

Good luck!

IR2200 as a printer/scanner - wireless network configuration

You need to hook an ethernet cable into your network. You could get a wireless router to extend another one and connect via ethernet into that if you prefer.

For setting up network settings, do you have the Network Guide?

Go to page 2-11 and follow the instructions there.

You can click the DHCP icon and hopefully you'll get an IP address etc. (you may have to restart using switch on right hand side of copier to turn off, wait a while then turn back on). Once you have an IP address click on the DHCP icon again to make sure it's not filled in with black and save settings.

IP address must be in same range as other devices on your network e.g 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x (only specify a number for x between 1 and 254, must not be used by another device). Subnet mask must be same as for other devices. It's probably 255.255.255.0 Canon Network ScanGear 2.21 (don't get the colour version) can be found on the Canon website (google it). Instructions for scanning are in the manual included with the download.

Sending DHCP request across diffrent vlans

Hmm... on your DHCP server, try setting the "default router" IP for each pool to be the VLAN ID on the switch.

scope 172.16.0.0 /24
router 172.16.0.1

scope 10.20.8.0 /22
router 10.20.8.1

I think the DHCP replies aren't going back where they should. I've never done this without a router doing all the DHCP, but it does work and i've done it many times. Your config looks spot on for the switch.

Xbox 360

Either the network connection between the 360 and router is not working correctly, or your router is not configured properly for DHCP.

DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) is a protocol that automatically assigns a network address (and some other settings) to your computer....or Xbox in this case. It works like this....when your Xbox connects to the network, it sends out a broadcast packet on the network that looks for a DHCP server. If a DHCP server is present, it responds. Next the Xbox requests its network address and other settings from the DHCP server. Your WGR614 router has a DHCP server function built in, but it may not be enabled. Try reconfiguring the router using the Netgear "Smart Wizard" installation CD and be sure to enable the DHCP capability, if asked.

Disabled dhcp, cant access router with browser

the default ipaddress for that is 192.168.0.1 you will need to set your computer with a ip address like 192.168.0.2 then you should be able to access it. be sure to change your computer back to DHCP after you reset the router
