Question about Singer 57817 Computerized Sewing Machine

Clutch actuating spring fell out of handwheel

Help please... I have the computerized singer 57817c. The spring (looks like an M) fell out of my handwheel. I've taken it apart, but cannot figure out how to put it back in. There is a small plastic loop on the handwheel disengaging clutch plate cover that chipped. Is this the problem? If I need to purchase a new one, how do I put it back together? Anyone have a diagram? I have searched the web and only found one, but it did not show how to replace the spring. Any help is greatly appreciated!!

Yes, that is where I did find the one diagram. It is the part #4 on page 20 of the manual for the 57817. Only problem, I cannot tell which direction, and how exactly; the spring fits into the wheel.

Also, on part #2 there is a little plastic ring at the top, that has chipped. I am wondering if perhaps the M spring fits into the loop, thereby creating tension on the handwheel. ?

You can get a replacement at Sewing Parts Online, and it costs $3.99. Here's the link: Unfortunately, although they sell service manuals, they do not have your model in stock, but if you email or call them, they can probably get it for you--if you want it.

It''s a SINGER sewing machine,,it's hand wheel run a slower and the next moment when i tried to sew a dress for me i found out dat it was'nt working well..i mean the hand wheel is stiff and not work but...

Has the clutch been disengaged to wind the bobbin? Pulling straight out on the handwheel on some machines will stop the needle from moving so that a bobbin can be attached and wound. If this is the case you simply push it straight back in. Also, on a computerized or electronic machine if the bobbin winding post is pushed right, the clutch will disengage. --Push it all the way left when you are done winding the bobbin to re-engage the clutch. If the problem is internal, like a slipped belt, you will need to have someone open up the machine to repair it. Hope you get it going again!

How do i insert black plastic bobbin case back into singer 57817c

Sometimes they have to go in at a very specific angle before they will seat properly. Other times you have to take off the metal cover to get it in there.
Unfortunately all the manuals are at a cost online, so I can't take a look to advise from the instructions.
