Hey there byadava, when you reinstall an operating system, the memory gets totally wiped when it is reformatted. The result is that all the system drivers for your motherboard are also erased. You will need to get the drivers for sound, and other things as well. They can be found at the manufacturer's support site. They are free and you simply choose from a list of possible downloads they provide. If you need help with that step let me know, and please provide your model name and number. Good Luck!

No Audio Device

Try using the VLC Player. It comes with drivers and codec. I've seen it solve problems with sound and audio.

Try using VLC as your player. Go to www.google.com andin the search box type "download vlc" (without the quotes). Look for the Video Lan download from site www.videolan.org/vlc Downloadand install it. It downloads and installs in 3 minutes or so. It'sa very fast player, smooth and it can play just about any type of dvd formatsand media. It's totally FREE.
If VLC Player works try your media player again. It might be necessary to reinstall Windows Media Player if it still gives you the error message.

There's no audio in my computer

If you are using speakers on a desktop computer, the first thing to try is to test your speakers on a different computer. If they still don't work, then it's time to replace them. If they do, then there a few things to do.

You would first have to test the speakers on a different audio port & see if that makes a difference. If it still doesn't work, the next few steps will also apply if you are using a notebook.

Check to make sure that the volume is all the way up and NOT set to mute.

rictutero_18.jpg

After making any adjustments to the volume, try playing any media file & see if the media player volume is also correctly set (cranked up, NOT muted).

(*) In the event that it comes up with an error, read it: it might say something about not having a sound device installed. If it does, then you will have to either download the audio drivers from the Manufacturer's website OR re-install it from the drivers CD that came with your computer/motherboard; if not, see below.

If you have Windows Vista or Seven with either HD audio or HDMI-capable display adapter, right-click on the volume icon near the system clock and choose Playback Devices.

Something like this should come up:

rictutero_20.jpg

Make sure to select the CORRECT DEVICE. If your computer is connected to an HDTV, choose HDMI. If it's a notebook computer, choose Digital Output. Otherwise, select SPEAKERS as seen above.

If all else fails, you will have to uninstall then re-install the sound drivers.
In Windows 7 or Vista, click on start & type "Device Manager" in the Start Search box and click on the Device Manager icon that appears in the results list

rictutero_21.jpg

For Windows XP, Click on Start -> Control Panel -> System.
The System Properties window pops up; click on the "Hardware" tab then click on "Device Manager"

rictutero_22.jpg

In the Device Manager window, open the Sound, video and game controllers.
Right-click on your audio device and choose "Uninstall"

rictutero_23.jpg

When prompted, restart your computer. It should work after that. If it does not, it will provide an error message that will determine the actual cause of the problem. You may end up downloading the drivers as detailed in the (*) section above.

If the drivers will NOT install and says there is no compatible hardware, then the audio device has stopped working & will need to be replaced. Any other error would pertain to the operating system and would be a completely different issue.

if ur audio device driver is integrated or plug n play device then,
step 1:open control panel
step 2:open 'sound speech and audio devices'
step 3: in the property menu of audio devices select drivers from the tab
step 4:select uninstall driver.
step 5: restart ur computer and the audio device will be reinstalled.

WINDOW MEDIA PLAYAR NO SOUND

***Codec issue If only some of the movies you're playing do not get sound it's likely you have a codec issue. codec downloads.
***Check volume settings Often no sound in the Microsoft Windows Media Player is corrected by adjusting the volume controls at the bottom of the window. Moving the slider from the left to the right will turn up the volume, if all the way to the left the volume is turned all the way down.

***Make sure not muted In addition to the volume slider, make sure the sound icon is not pressed in. This button is the mute button and will mute the sound.

***Sound Driver Drivers for your sound card download this http://www.devicedoctor.com/device-doctor-download.php
***Update / Reinstall the Windows Media Player
If you continue to experience issues, you may want to consider reinstalling and/or updating the Windows Media player on your computer. You can find the latest Windows Media player on your computer by clicking "here".

Sound is muted

Could you please check the following for me.
1) Open windows media player and attempt to play a song, does windows media player bring up an error message or does it just play without sound?
2) Go to your control panel and click on sound, make sure nothing is muted.
3) In sounds again, look for a list of usable devices, if there is more than one, try each and until you get some kind of sound.

If Windows media player gave you an error message try updating your drivers with the links provided.
