Pdshapiro, Learn flashlight test in my fixya profile to determine current state of shutdown of units "switch-mode-power-supply"... Then do more reading and visit some of the web links mentioned in my many responses to other owners of Black or Blank n Black screen monitors. You will find out all you need to know and all options if you read my older (late 09 posts) responses to other owners of same or similar sympton ccfl back-lit lcd monitors. JUST DO SOME READING FIRST. Then come back to this post and give it a rating if it steered you in the right direction. Bye for now. 12fixlouie

LCD monitor turns off

I have had the same problem as others seem to have had with the dell flat panel. After leaving the screen on for some time, the monitor brightens for a moment, then goes black, while the green light stays on. When I reboot, it works again for some time, or if I remove the cable for a few minutes and plug it back in (with monitor turned off) it will come back on...only to repeat the black screen. I have changed the power features, screen resolution, downloaded updated drivers from dell, and viewed dells troubleshooting advice on the monitor cd that came with the computer. Nothing directly advises on this problem, but I have read here and in other online message boards the exact same problem. Anyone able to fix this?

Describe your Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor Problem The monitor seems to be turning itself repeatedly on and off. No picture is ever seen, the screen stays black with a slight flicker.

Sounds like the monitor is cycling power.
Try plugging the monitor into a different power socket. Try not to use the same power bar as your computer

Windows XP won't start

The amber light is the error light on a Dell. It can mean a few things. 1. RAM has went bad, not properly seated. 2. Video card has went bad or come unseated. 3. Power supply is not working properly; or 4. Motherboard has went bad. Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

Monitor lives its own life ;) Turnes off and on in random moments

It sounds like there's a problem in the power supply or inverter section and it's just teetering on the edge of failure. The disruption of the signal is apparently just enough to kick it over the cliff until it's reset. Sooner or later, it'll need some help, like connections, capacitors, output transistors, capacitors, transformers. Those are the most common failures in these. I think you'll see it get worse
