Question about Canon Optura 500 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

How to record with dates

I recently bought a canon optura 500 camcorder. Problem is I can;t seem to record my videos with the dates burned to my footage.

I read through the manual but I can't find what I was looking for. The manual only talks about date and time display and not about recording while keeping the time and dates intact (in the video). Either that or I missed something

Please help.

Thank you

You shoul really need to look at the instructional functions of the can corder . simply look for the settings for you to get the right file

Were the battery goes there is a cover with a silver screw holding it on. There is a flex behind it that sometimes comes loose and causes the problem you have described. Remove the screw and cover and push on the part behind the cover. I work at canon and when we get a model like yours that usually is he problem.

Canon Optura 40 playback - only get blue screen - no image, no sound

Try a cleaning tape. Buy a good quality cleaning tape (Panasonic makes one) and remember: cleaning tapes are abrasive so don't overuse it! Overuse can result in the need to replace the rotating drum assy in the camcorder. I'll bet a cleaning tape takes care of your problem.

Video transfer from Canon Optura 10 to Apple iMac

It should work well with Apple iMovie that came with your mac. There is a new version (imovie 09) that is said to be a major improvement over imovie 08 (the version that likely came with your computer). It is part of the iLife suite of multimedia Apple software. Available for $79 from the apple store. Here's a link to the store page. Buy now

I believe you need a stereo mic. This will have two black rings around the male input. When you plug it into the camera, it will "disable" the built-in mic. I don't believe it will matter if the attenuation is on or off.

Audio Quality

It's possible that the hard disks are in a non-DMA mode. Microsoft admits that there is a problem and a quick fix is to set the drives to PIO, OK it then go back in and set them to DMA. Best of luck,
