Having a problem with my Advent 7013 Laptop. The screen will some times go dark. The image is still there only the backlight is not on. This is fairly random and pressing the Hibernate button switches the backlight on again as it shuts down, very annoying. Next time it starts up it is fine and will continue to work for the rest of the day, often the new few then it does it again. I have formatted the hard drive and re-installed windows XP but this has not helped.
This is a physical problem with either the backlight itself, the PMU or the inverter cable.
If you have Coverplan extended warranty on your laptop call The TechGuys on 0844 800 60 20 and arrange for the laptop to be collected, yes I know The TechGuys ****, that's because when the call-centre was handed over to Capita call-centre management they constructively dismissed all the technical staff and replaced them with minimum-wage script monkeys, but this laptop is a DSGi product so it's up to them to arrange repair.
If you no longer have a warranty you should shop around for a quote.
