Question about Sony Grand WEGA KDP-57XBR2 57" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Thin red horizontal lines across screen

I get these slightly curved thin red horizontal lines across the screen.
They are stationary and don't effect the picture but are annoying in the background.
I just set the tv up. Its new to me (about 5 years old).
Right now its only running through a Tivo which is on rabbit ears. I have it plugged into TV with standard red/white/yellow cable.

Any ideas.

Replace the focus block or try to adjust the screen control on the focus block for red only. this will affect the white balance of the set so adjust it carefully. the focus block is located on the front inside the set. remove the speaker cover then the 4 screws on the front plate. the focus block is 3" x 2" black box with 6 adjustment posts three for focus and three for screen. adjust only the affected screen (R).

If the lines are slightly curved and stationary on about 2/3 of the screen its either the Blue CRT or the Blue CRT drive board which is having the problem.

Red lines across bottom portion of screen

usually strong magnets like those in speakers cause lines on tvs if placed to close to the tv.
so demagnitizing the screen should work .
you may have to take it into a pepair shop to do this.
but if thats not the problem. you moe than likely are seeing a common problem of tv screen burn out. and these new tvs tend to burn out faster than the old ones did.

Horizontal blue lines with a slight blue wash in the screen

Hi,
Its because of Over Voltage of Screen (G2) to Blue CRT.
Take off front lower cover (speaker grill) and unscrew board. There you will need to find Focus Block mounted having 6 control knobs. 3 knobs are for Focus control and 3 are for Screen volts control. Find Blue Screen control knob and turn is Counter Click Wise slightly until bluish shade disappear on screen including few blue horizontal lines.
If you select AV input to adjust that will be fine as you do not need to wait for dark-scene.

Thin red horizontal lines appear when viewing a dark background

Look around this sight the answer is explained here. you hace to take off the front speaker cover and a small panal undder it. you will find six knobs on a small panal. use these to adjust the settings fotr the power and they will remove the lines. You will need to have the tv on and I would sugest a normal size phillips head screwdriver not a power tool.

Thin red horizontal lines across screen

While looking at your TV, remove the bottom right speaker grill. There you will find a cover held by a couple of screws. Remove the screws and behind the cover you will find the "focus pack" which is a group of 6 adjustment screws. The top screws adjust (in order from left to right) the brightness of Red, Green and Blue.

What you will do preferably at night (or with the room dark) turn the top left adjustment screw (Red) all the way to the left and then gradually turn it to the right until the point you can see the retrace line and then turn it slightly to the left until the retrace line disappears. That's it! You can do this for all three colors - if need be. These do go out of adjustment every now and then. The 3 screws on the bottom are to focus the colors individually to minimize "bloom" on the screen. It's best to be in service mode on your TV when doing this OR open up the cabinet and cover (with something) the other 2 colors while you adjust the focus of the color you're adjusting.

Good Luck!

Very fine red lines across srceen

It is an adjustment, but it's an adjustment you may not want to do. It's the red screen control. It's located behind the front panel so the entire front panel has to be removed in order to access it-which will expose you to hazardous voltages. if you like, I can post detailed instructions on how to get that front panel off, it's kinda tricky.
