While driving my Garmin will just shut down. It acts like a cord is not plugged in tightly but they are. Have to restart & call up recent address to keep going. I'm on vacation so I don't have any ID information to see if I need a update. I'm nervous about traveling back...

A Garmin Nuvi 1300 that won't start, freezes, or is acting erratically is symptomatic of having corrupt firmware.

To correct this, I recommend backing up your favorites, clearing all user data, and if it still is stuck, then updating your Nuvi firmware.

Follow these three steps to take to get your Garmin Nuvi 1300 running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites.
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

My Garmin 1490 continually cycles on and off,

Check the plug at the GPS, wiggle it, does it affect this problem? Plug it into another vehicle and see if it still acts up. This is either the plug on the GPS or the power cable or the power socket of the vehicle.

My Garmin 1200 will turn on but then immediately shuts down. It is plugged in in the car when this happens.

plug it in to your computer for a few hour via the usb cord supplied with your Garmin, then try again. (you must turn your computer on)

Unit shuts down while navigating with power cord plugged inalso seems to have dead pixels in screen

Dead pixels you can't do anything about without replacing the COLOR LCD TOUCH SCREEN. Which will probably cost as much as replacing the whole unit anyway.
As for shutting down while plugged in, that may be one of two things. Either the charging cord has gone bad (and they do go bad), or your not plugged into the lighter/charging port in your vehicle completely. Lastly, the charging cord for a Garmin GPS has a fuse in it, at the head that plugs into the charging port. Check it to see that it's not blown. Chances are it may be.

Shuts down when driving, looses power, and goes to battery

If your Nuvi's battery is low, and the plug becomes loose, then that may be your problem. If your Nuvi is acting up due to a firmware / system software glitch (common common common), then I can help you fix your Garmin Nuvi 200W.

There are three steps to take to get your Nuvi running like new:

  1. Back up your Favorites (if your computer will still recognize it or if you have a memory chip you can pop into a card reader).
  2. Perform a Hard Reset.
  3. Download and then run Garmin WebUpdater to replace its firmware / system software.

I hope that helps.

Garmin nuvi 200 keeps shutting down

You may need a new power cord, I have the nuvi 250w and the cord is getting bad after a year. The battery will only run it for a short time.

Ink system failure & keeps shutting down & coming on its own.

Do the following, let me know if it clears or not:
  1. Press the On button to turn the printer off.
  2. Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  3. Remove all the ink cartridges.
  4. Wait two minutes.
  5. Plug the power cord into the back of the printer.
  6. Press the On button to turn the printer on.
Install the ink cartridges when prompted.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Garmin Nuvi stopped working and won't restart

Got a Garmin Nuvi 260. Same problem. I read the booklet. There's a reset button on the bottom. Disconnect from power. Push the reset button. Connect back to power. Now it works. The reset button is tiny and looks more like just text on the bottom sticker than it does a button. But push it anyway.
