1 Answer

Sony LH500 2 questions - I have over 500 CD's on this hard drive and am terrified it may break down and lose all the data. Can I back up to an extenal hard drive or PC? And how do I get, say, 30 albums on the hard drive to play a random shuffle sequence?

I have emailed Sony with the same question, and they say there is no way of backing up the LH500 HDD, so if breaks down thats it! I've just plugged an Ipod into my stereo system - far better.

I dropped my TrekStor DataStation maxi g.u - 3.5"

Hello

You need to understand that a hard drive is very similar to glass, if you drop it, its done for, and it breaks.

contact a data recovery service if you had something of importance in the drive, you will not be able to recover anything out from it yourself if you really dropped it.

they break, they can break even if the case falls over on it self on the table.

let me know if you have any other questions.

Thanks.
Ekse

I forgot my password on my External WD Hard drive

The WD software can not retrieve your password. If you lose your password you will be permanently locked out of access to your data.

It is possible to reformat the the drive, but you will lose all data.

Microsoft Windows asking me to backup the files in drives because hard disk has encountered a problem. How to solve the problem without backing up of the files?

There is no way you can avoid this because if the hard drive fails you will lose your data.
Do you want to risk losing your data?
The problem could be some bad blocks on the hard disk and Scan Disk may fix this problem BUT there is a risk this process may wipe out some data files or may require re-formating the hard drive.
The hard drive may be corrected by re-formatting the hard drive, but this process will wipe your data off this hard disk.

This drive is not formateted. bad sectar found

If you go ahead and format the hard drive, fromatting will lock out these bad sectors.
Bad sectors can indicate that the hard drive is wearing out especially if the number of bad sectors increase as you use the hard disk and if this is the case then back up your data regularly so you won't lose your data when this hard drives fail completely. I would consider retiring this hard drive ASAP.
Bad sectors are usually cause by the magnetic oxide layer on the platters wearing out or breaking down.

Western Digital 1TB hard drive, worked all day, now giving me error, "reformat disk before using".. do I dare press yes?

Only if you want to lose all your data, if you just bought this earlier return it exchange for another one, this is kind of a bad sign of hard drive health. Did you bump it or drop it? if you cant or dont want to swap it out i'd suggest shutting down your computer and powering down the drive, then plugging it all back in and starting it up, you'd be amazed how often that fixes issues with new products. If you're ok with starting from scratch you can certainly reformat to attempt to fix a formatting issue but it will erase all data on the drive.

Hope that helps, Good luck

Erase complete backup from external hard drive. Also, how do I erase individual backups. Thank You.

Just format the drive - unless you have other stuff on it.
Be careful - make doubly sure that the drive you are formating is the extenal drive!!
