Compaq nc6000. backlight problem. can very fainly see the images on the screem. On boot up you get the first screen in orange and then everything goes very dim. Have taken out the battery and CD-ROM drive and left powered off. Powered up and same problem. Not taken the laptop apart yet ro look for any loose connections on the inverter (if I can find it). Thanks.

It sounds like the inverter or backlights have gone bad. When the inverter board goes bad it quits sending the required voltage to the backlights. The backlights illuminate the screen. It may just be a loose connection, If you need an inverter you can try E-bay but I order from businesses like. http://www.impactcomputers.com/344396-001-ib.html

Display are not showing cleanless

Try connecting an external monitor to the computer and see if it displays better. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok, then your video card inside the computer is good, but your lcd screen is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the same way with problems, then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the video shows on the external monitor that proves your video card is ok, ,but your lcd screen is bad. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

Charging and monitor issues

If your AC Adapter and Power Cord is working fine, then your new battery has a problem if it will not charge. Just because it is new does not mean it will work.

As for your Monitor, try the steps below. Because it works with an external monitor, we know your Video Card is working fine, so the problem is either the LCD Inverter or the Lcd Screen itself is bad.

Shine a flashlight on the dark screen to see if you barely see the icons on the desktop. If so, then the LCD Inverter is bad.

If you see no icons by shinning a flash light and the external monitor works, then your screen is bad. If you see no icons by shinning the flash light and nothing shows on the external monitor, then most likely your video card is bad.

No display

No Display? Does it seem like the computer is running but the screen is black? Do you hear fans, disk drive spinning, lights?

If the computer seems like it when through the boot process and is up and running but the screen is black, then you either have a Video Card problem, LCD Inverter problem or the LCD Screen has gone bad.

My screen on my Dell Inspiron Notebook went black. But I can barely see on the screen that the computer ran a problem check and said my computer was having a problem starting.

The invertor lamp has gone bad, so you would need to replace the LCD screen. there is nothing else you can do. try to connect an external monitor adn then press Fn + F8 to switch the video to the external monitor. if the image on the external monitor is fine then its the lcd. if the external monitor has the same image then motherboard problem. you can also try Fn + Up arrow key to increase the brightness.

Dell Inspiron laptop monitor is gone very faint

Connect an external monitor to the laptop and power it up, if you see a clear image on an external monitor, this means your video card is OK.

If you see a dim image or flicking image on the LCD screen it means you have a backlight problem.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
