Dead Creative Zen M

My Creative is completely dead. It doesn't turn on. Reset does nothing. Computer can't detect it either. Some people have got a flashing blue light but mine doesn't even do that! Has the battery completely died on me?

Please help.

Yeah my Zen just flashes its blue light and doesnt do anything. I disassembled it to check it since I am already past my warranty anyways. All I found was this gold sheet had broken off on the inside. Is this the problem? Anyone have an idea of how to fix it?

I get no blue light at all. My computer does not even recognize the player as being connected. HELP

  • boyumz Mar 30, 2008

Plug it into the computer and the wall outlet at the same time. Go online and update your firmware. After all that, I left it plugged in to charge, and everything was fine. It charged up and held the charge. Has been working fine ever since. Good Luck!

Plugged into the wall I get a continous blue light. After hours, still will not turn on. Plugged into USB at the same time - nothing. Tried reset - nothing. Help!

  • haakmann Oct 08, 2008

When i plug it in to the wall, a blue light shows for about 15 sec. But it is impossible to turned it on. After just a few minutes the unit gets very warm!
Does it has to be pluged in for a lont time to start, or is the battery gone?
    Thanks for any respond

Usually this problem is due to the firmware. When the firmware is updated to version 1.62.02, this problem usually will be corrected. The older firmwares have problems in recognizing the battery and allowing the battery to power the unit.

You will need a wall/AC charger for the operation. Plug in the wall charger and USB cable at the same time. Your Zen should power on when connected to direct AC power via the wall charger. Once it is powered on, connect the USB cable to your computer. Then begin the firmware download.

If your Zen does not power on when connected to the wall charger, your unit is dead and its time to replace it or get the motherboard replaced via one of the Repair services offered on this website.

If the upgrade button on the firmware window is not available, it is also time to replace your motherboard due to corruption of a chip on the board.

Usually when the blue light flashes, it means you completely used all of your battery power. If you have a wall charger, plug it in. But if you don't just leave it plugged into your computer for about 12-14 hours, thats how I fixed mine.

okay one if your zen don't work, connect to pc cable, then blue light flashes, wait like 5-10mins then pc will read it and it will charge normal, now if its dead with no blue light flickering after u connected to a cable, it's dead.

try to replace the battery for that my friend. being unused for several months then suddenly charging overnyt would really do damage that we dont think is conceiveable.

anyway, to change the batteries for that, here is a very helpful video on how to replace the battery for your ZEN player.

a new battery costs around 30 dollars.

just do be careful not do damage your player while changing the battery ok.

If a reset does not work using the reset hole, then try this: First, back up all of your music and do this: Turn off the player and disconnect it from the computer. Then press and hold the play/puse button and turn it on simultaneously. The player should be in recovery mode. Scroll down and select format (all) and let it format. Then reload all of music back onto your player and it should work like new. Hope this helps!

Zen stone mp3 player not switching on

Mine was also completely dead, with the reset doing nothing! I held the vol+ and the Play button at the same time and it was good to go. Holding just the play button or the vol+ button didnt acheive anything. But as I held both together, It came back to life instantly and I havent had any problems with it (for a week so far).
