Using a Samsung ML-4500 printer with a laptop

A friend gave me an older Samsung ML-4500 printer to use with my laptop at school (where I'm a teacher).

Because the printer cable could not be used with my Fujitsu laptop, I purchased and IEEE 1284 cable with a USB port to put into my laptop. The cable came with a DVD (installation?), but I have no clue what to do with the DVD.

When I try the "add a printer" automatic and manual installation method from my laptop, it doesn't work. I still can't get the two machines talking.

Please help! (Is there any way I can call and SPEAK with a live person? I'm not very good with this computer stuff, and I have confidence this problem is solvable -- if only I can get some help!)

Thanks.

Nicole

I have winXP Pro and a Samsung ML-4500 connected using an IEEE 1294 to usb cable. I try to print a test page and it acts like it's working, but nothing prints and I get a printer error. If I cancel the print and try to print again in just hangs until I recieve an error. If I restart my computer and try to print again it acts like it's working, but still no page.

    Any help please.

In order for the printer to work use this driver

http://erms.samsungusa.com/customer/sea/jsp/faqs/faqs_view.jsp?PG_ID=1&AT_ID=8188&PROD_SUB_ID=29&PROD_ID=29

After installing the driver go into "control panel "then "printer and faxes". Right click on samsung ml 4500, go into properties then PORTS. Scroll down and click on USB instead of LPT1printer port. Now your done!!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

How is my son doing in school

You'll have to ask the school and/or his teacher(s).

You asked this question in an international forum. Did you really expect an answer when you didn't give your son's name or the name of the school he attends?

How do you unblock sites on school computers/laptops ? or what's a good proxy site to use ?

arghhhhhhh dodgy ground this one..... i've installed many school networks & there are MANY MANY q's around this i'd need answered first.....
firstly are you a pupil, teacher, network administrator or other?
If you are asking about a networked PC or laptop then the chances are this is being controlled by you LA (Local Authority) IT and whilst you MAY find a way around their whitelists & blacklists it's unlikely & will be very shortlived - sorry!

How do u unblock myspace on a school computer

Sorry, but only the schools system admin change these settings. their is no legal way you can do this. Except getting your friends parents, your friends, other school members, and their parents to sign a petition about making it where the students at your school can view that site.

for more information on what a petition is, do some research, ask some teachers if they would help back you. Come up with some very good ideas and reasons why students at your school should be able to view myspace.

it may or may not change anything, but if you get enough people, and you do it the correct way anything is possible.

I know how to cut past but dont know how to put where my school wants to so i can sent it to them

Most school project and assignments are produced as word documents.
You need to open a blank word document and paste the information into this word document.
You need to add your own words and not use all the information and material from a computer or Internet source. The teacher can recognize copied material from internet sources that are not your own words.
The finished word document can be printed out or copied to a CD etc. as required by your teacher.

Your school computers may be on an intranet and not the internet. Check with your teacher.

Connecting a new computer to an older printer

Does this Laptop have a docking station? If so then on the back of the docking station should be a parallel port.

Is you laptop connected to a router/firewall/switch? Then you can get a device that will make the printer become networkable and connect to you firewall switch...this unit is called HP jetdirect. It will make your parralel printer become more useful and connected to the network.

Problem is the printer is "old school" and the laptop is "new school", the JetDirect will bridge this...

Samsung ML-4500 with IEEE 1284 to usb cable not working

Windows XP/VISTA (do not install the CD)
1) Plug the cable into the USB port on your computer.
2) A prompt that says "Found New Hardware" will appear. Windows will then install the USB printing support driver automatically. You do not need to install the driver from the CD.
3) Plug the cable into the printer.
4) If your printer is already installed, click on Start, then Printers & Faxes. Right click on the printer you are connecting to and click on Properties. Click on the Ports tab and check the ‘Virtual printer port for USB’ port. Click OK.
5) You should now be able to print.

With XP, the biggest clue is to FIRST plug the cable into the usb slot, THEN the other end of the cable into the printer.
