How do we find the WEP key for my WGR614v9

Configuring WEP:
  1. Use an ethernet cable to connect a computer to any one of the four LAN ports of the NETGEAR router.
  2. In a web browser, enter the router's IP address - either or by default.
  3. When prompted for a Username and Password, enter the default username and password (admin; password) unless you have already changed it. NETGEAR recommends changing the default password to increase the security of your network.
  4. Select Wireless Settings from the Setup menu in the left-hand navigation bar. n101675_image001.jpg
  5. Under Security Options, select WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy).
  6. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Authentication Type, select Automatic.
  7. From Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, select 64-bit or 128-bit. NOTE: You will need to configure your wireless computers with the same setting.
  8. From Security Encryption (WEP) Key, select Key 1 and enter a key.
    • Note: WEP keys are entered in hexadecimal digits, which are any combination of 0-9, A-F.
      • If you selected 64-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 10 hexadecimal digits for your key.
      • If you selected 128-bit under Security Encryption (WEP) > Encryption Strength, then enter 26 hexadecimal digits for your key.
    • SAVE or KEEP NOTE of these values - they will be required to connect wirelessly to your network.
  9. Click Apply to save the settings.

How do I install my WEP number

go to If you have already configured the router for internet access, then just click on "configuration" otherwise, go through the steps to configure it according to your ISP's instructions, then click on configuration. then wireless. Then go down to privacy settings.

Pick which authentication type to use ( I recomened open)
Then pick the highest encyption meathod that all of your wireless devices are capable of. 64-bit, 128-bit or 256-bit.

Most devices use 64 and 128 bit, but if all of your devices use 256, then use it. Then create a wireless key to use.
If key select is selected, the WEP Key is treated as a string of text characters, and the number of characters must be either 5 (for 64-bit encryption) or 13 (for 128-bit encryption) or 29 (for 256-bit encryption).

If not selected, the WEP key is treated as a string of hexadecimal characters, and the number of characters must be either 10 (for 64-bit encryption), 26 (for 128-bit encryption), or 58 (for 256-bit encryption). The only allowable hexadecimal characters are 0-9 and A-F. (My hint is to use hexadecimal, it is eaiser)

If you would like to create a new WEP key go to this site ( and type in a passphrase and click generate. it will generate 4 64-bit keys and 1 128-bit key.

choose the best bit 64 or 128 bit, then copy and paste it into the correct key box(es)

How to join Vista computer to Windows 7 homegroup computer. They ping each other but they are not accesable.

If other users are unable to access your network shares, especially if they are using older versions of Windows or old 802.11b wireless adapters, their systems might not support 128-bit encryption. Select Enable File Sharing for Devices that Use 40 or 56-bit encryption.
To simplify sharing, you can disable password protected file sharing. To do so, select Turn Off Password Protected Sharing.

WEP Encryption

It is recommended to enable encryption on your wireless router before your wireless network adapters. Please establish wireless connectivity before enabling encryption. Note: Your network will slow down and wireless signal may degrade when enabling encryption due to the added overhead. Step 1 Log into the web configuration of the router by opening up a web browser and typing in the IP address of the router ( Step 2 Enter your username (admin) and your password (blank by default). Click OK . Click the Home tab and click the Wireless button on the left hand side of the screen. Step 3 Select Enable next to the WEP radio buttons. For WEP encryption select 64, 128, or 256-bit encryption. For the Key type select HEX. If you have an option for Authentication type, select Shared Key. Step 4 Select Key 1. Enter a Hex encryption key that you make up. The length of the encryption key will depend on what you selected under WEP Encryption. 64-bit encryption 10 characters 128-bit encryption 26 characters 256-bit encryption 58 characters (available on DI-614+ only) The encryption key is HEX, meaning 0-9 and A-F are valid characters. For example, A4583DFF1A (64-bit HEX key). Step 5 Click on the Apply button then click on the Continue button to save your settings. Note: If using non-D-Link adapters, please refer to the manufacturer´s documentation on enabling encryption.
