Your computer cannot find a boot-able storage device, i.e. hard disk drive, to boot from. Either your hard disk drive is defective or the OS (operating system software) is corrupted and needs to be re-installed.

I have dell dimension 2400 desktop machine.. the dvr drive/cd rom icons are not showing in my computer window. not showing in bios even?? pls kindly give a solution for this..

Hello,

Try this quick fix :
Get a screw driver, unscrew your machine and remove your drive. If you cant do this by yourself,

just try and get a good technician to do it for you.
After this, power up your system normally without the drive connected.
Then shut down properly, and reconnect the drive, making sure that its firmly connected.
Then power on again and check it in the system BIOS if its now detected, then save and exit,

then boot your system properly again. Then when the system boots, just right click on my

computer, then properties, then select the hardwares tab, then click on device manager.
When you get to device manager page, try and locate DVD/CDrom Drives, then click on it, if your

drive is there, then just right-click on it, and select uninstall, and after this, on that same page,

click on 'Actions', and select "Scan for hardware changes". But if its not there. Just click on the

"Actions, and Then select "Scan for hardware changes".
This should automatically out it back inside your My Computer page.
Hope this helps you out.
Goodluck!

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and it had been working fine until recently. When powering on, it goes to the Dell screen, then there is 2 beeps and won't boot up. I checked the lights in the back for...

I've had a look at the Dell website, at

http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/SYSTEMS/dim2400/en/sm_en/advtshoo.htm

Which basically tells you to do what you've already done.

All I can suggest is you check again, but both ends of the ide connections to mother board and HDD / Disk drives.

If its dusty in there, I'd remove clean and reseat the ram and any PCI cards as well.

Dell Dimension 2400 won't recognize DVD-ROM drive as Boot Device.

Enter the Bios and under System Components find the Boot priority in the Bios and move the drive to the top of the list, also you can press F12 at Start up to select it as well. :)

Most likely the computer itself, the mother board in the Dells aren't very good. I would suggest the next time you buy a computer you should get a Mac. You'll have no problems at all, and you'll find that Microsoft Office for Mac runs far better too.

The resolution for this is to go into the BIOS with the help of F2. Then look for the option USB Legacy devices. If it is enabled disable it or vice-a-versa. Also look for Boot from USB devices. Please disable that option. And select the first boot device to be the HDD (Internal hard drive)

Dell Dimensions 2400 HDD Boot FAIL

Check the jumpers on the back of the drive. If one came out of the pc see what position the jumper was in and then change the jumper on the drive your puting in. Not theposition but what it corrisponds to on the lable. Most drives will use the "cs" or cable select.

I am Having problem restoring my dell 2400

Well you may have a bad mother board or IDE port to which the HDD is connected. If the CD is connected to the same IDE channel as the HDD, move it to IDE1 which is the second IDE channel. If it then recognizes your CD, IDE0 is bad and you need to replace your board. Let me know how things are connected inside the computer.
