Question about Creative Labs ZEN V Plus MP3 Player

Zen V Plus 2G Totally Inactive

Ok, some background first.

I purchased this player in April '07. I have been very happy with it, except every few weeks, it freezes. I reset it with a paper clip, and it was fine each time. About a month ago, I noticed that this was happening more and more often.

Finally, today, it froze on the "rebuilding library" (from the last time) screen. I reseted it like normal, it turned off, but won't turn back on. When I push the switch, the button backlight flashes once, but nothing else happens. When I plug it into the computer, the button backlight flashes continuously, but it still won't turn on. The computer does not recognize it, and it is not listed in Device Manager at all. I'm running XP SP2.

Any ideas?

I tried adding more music to my player yesterday. It seized up. I had to disconnect it from my computer and I tried to reset it. It keeps going into the "recovering library" mode and doesn't go on from there. I can't even turn it off.

I tried to do as suggested and it still has the same problem.

Possible hardware issues, but try soft fixes first. firmware upgrade resolves most intemrittent freezing issues, but: Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.

I had this problem and was able to solve it, but it wiped out everything on my player. Fortunately I was able to restore it all. Here is what you do: For the player stuck in recovery mode, reset the player, but hold the play button while it turns back on. As soon as the Creative logo shows up on the screen, release the play button. Now select Format (All) and select Yes. After it finishes formatting, select Reboot. After this mine was working again, but as I said, everything on it was gone, but I really had no other choice. This works if it is a corrupted file that is causing the problem, as it removes the corrupted file along with everything else. For the player that won't turn on, maybe if you charge it for awhile first and then try this.

Just hit the reset button (Under the power switch, you will need something to reach it with)

It will take a few minutes to rebuild the folders, but it should work fine after that.

My creative zen is completely dead it doesn't power on at all also it doesn't charge there is no power what so ever please help me

I have had the problem of the completely dead player after having it for less that an day. No response to any buttons, no response when plugged into USB to charge, and Windows sees it as an "unknown device" when plugged into the PC. It tried the reset hole, and still nothing.

Then I tried connecting it to the PC to charge and then using the reset hole. Success - the player sprang back to life, fully charged. Hope this helps someone.

i heard your should put it in container with rice. Rice is a natural absorber to moisture, maybe this will dry it out from the inside?

Creative Zen V Plus

Simply let it sit and let the battery run out. When it's totally battery-dead, plug it back in and let it charge. It will be unfrozen when it's ready. You might also want to try sliding the off button down while you hit reset for a quicker version (doesn't always work)

I have a creavtive zen v

Have you tried updating the firmware of your Zen V Plus? I've had mine for almost an year and haven't had these issues -- I updated the firmware as soon as I unpacked it.

try downloading the
MP3 player recovery tool from Creative's website (the tool contains the latest firmware update available -- 1.15.03). Plug your ZV+ into your PC, run the program and let it update the firmware. Then format, reload your music and try it.

By the way, before updating the firmware, let the battery have a full charge, ok?

Zen V is dead
"If your Zen V is dead, wont respond to anything, try this, plug it in to the computer, hold the power switch in the on position, THEN trigger the reset button, worked like a charm for mine, I had thought it a lost cause."

Check this link out: http://us.creative.com/support/warranty/ This would be your best bet as they would most likely replace the LCD at no cost. Good luck.
