Replacing the ERC in an ARGS7650WW

Hello. I want to replace the ERC in my range. Can you verify that I can remove the cooktop by removing the center screws in the burners. Will that give me good access to the ERC area?

Thanks! EMG

How do I remove the cooktop

Hello Brent Beatty, thanks for your inquiry!
I see that you need to remove the old cooktop from your Frigidaire range, CGES3065K6. I was unable to locate any step by step instructions on how to remove the old cooktop. I did locate a parts manual which provides a thorough breakdown of all the parts within your range. If you need additional assistance regarding your cooktop replacement I would highly recommend reaching out to an expert technician to ensure the appropriate replacement part is installed correctly to prevent future issues. I hope this information helps to some degree - thanks for your question, and please do not hesitate to reconnect. -Matt

Electric stove stopped working. Code 50 appears when I turn burners on.

HELLO,

What this error code on a Kitchen Aid range indicates a keypad short on the Electronic Range Control (ERC) board. This is the clock/timer on the operator console. The recommended fix is to replace the ERC. It has cost it to stop working You can generally find replacement parts at these websites:

searspartsdirect.comappliancepartspros.com repairclinic.com

All these sites offer great service with competitive pricing, so shop and compare.

Replacing an ERC is not a difficult repair and can be accomplished by the average do-it-yourself offer. If you decide to order the part and wish to repair this on your own, follow these steps:

1. UNPLUG the range. Dangerous voltage is still present inside even with the range turned off.
2. Pull the range away from the wall and turn the unit around so you can access the rear panel.
3. Remove the screws on the back of the operator console.
4. Carefully disconnect the connector plugs to the ERC. Take note of how they are connected, so that you can reinstall them correctly.
NOTE: The connectors are usually color coded with the colors printed on the circuit board. However, if the colors are not printed on the board, write them down. (A digital camera also comes in real handy for this).
5. With the connectors removed, remove the mounting screws to the ERC and the assembly will come out.
NOTE: Most replacement ERC boards do not come with the overlay. This is the plastic pre-printed number display. The overlay can easily be peeled off and re-used. Just make sure you properly orient the overlay so that you don't inadvertently place it on the new board upside down. If your existing overlay is damaged, you will need to order separately.
6. Install new ERC using the steps provided in reverse order. Minimize handling the new circuit board with your bare hands to avoid damaging the board.

Thank you and thank for using fixya.

My Kitchen Aid modelKGRC608LSS is not working on

Well it sounds like it is either the control key pad or the ERC(control module) is defective. The first thing you will need to verify is the condition of the ribbon cable that goes from the control pad to the ERC. You will need to unplug the range from the electrical outlet and then remove the back panel of the range. Now inspect the ribbon cable for any visible defects to it. Sometimes the cable will arc across itself and cause a short. Inspect each one of the lines(wires) on the ribbon cable and make sure they are not shorted. Now check to make sure the cable is found properly seated. If it is found loose or mis-aligned then remove and re-install it properly. You can also use a pencil eraser to clean the contacts on the ribbon cable while you have it dis-connected. Also verify that the wiring harness is properly seated and there is voltage going to the ERC. Hopefully these steps might get the range working again. The top burners/igniters can still work even if the touchpad or ERC is bad because they do not control the circuits for the igniters(they are mechanical switches) and mechanical burner valves. If not you might need to replace both the ERC and the Touchpad in combination to get the range to work again.

Upper (broiler) element won't turn off causing thermal runaway

This is caused by a stuck broil relay on the Electronic Range Control (ERC) board. In most cases you will need to replace the ERC.

If you have any questions about this repair, please post back with you complete model number, so that I may bre able to provide you with better assistance. I hop this information helps you.

NOTE: In the interim, if you still want to use the range, you can unplug the appliance, remove the back panel and disconnect the two wire leads going to the broil element. Trace the wires back from the broil element to the ERC and disconnect them. Tuck the wires out of the way.

Front side heat element with ring wont light on ( or heat up)

These type of elements are often known as dual elements. They usually have two separate coils. More than likely the center coil has failed. They cannot be repaired and, in the case with your range, cannot be replaced separately. You will need to replace the entire element. Searspartsdirect.com carries parts for your range. Just type in your model number and locate item numbers 5301 and 5302 under the "Cooktop" heading. I do not know which front element your are talking about, but there is a price difference. No, thay aren't interchangeable. They have different wattage ratings. You will need to determine which one it is that you're having problems with. Replacing a single element is not difficult. It can be accomplished easily by following these instructions:

1. Unplug the range before servicing. Even with the unit turned off, there are potentially dangerous voltages present on the wiring harness.
2. Open the oven door and locate the two screws that hold the cooktop in place under the front edge. CAUTION: Do not put any weight on the oven door. You can cause damage to the door springs. Once you remove the screws to the cooktop, close the oven door.
3. With the screws removed, the cooktop will lift up.
4. Use something to prop up the cooktop, or a second person to assist, and carefully remove the mounting bracket to the two front elements. They are assembled together on the same bracket piece.
5. Gently lay the entire assembly on top of the oven box, leaving the cooktop propped up. Disconnect the wires to the affected element and unscrew the mounting clips. NOTE: There are numbered mounting holes on the element, pay attention to which numbers the clips are screwed into.
6. Remove old element. Install mounting clips to new element and reconnect wires. Install new element in mounting bracket and carefully lift back into place on the cooktop and install. NOTE: Use caution when handling the elements, they are extremely fragile. DO NOT touch the ceramic material, or electric coils with your bare hands. Oil transfer form your hands can cause potential hot spots, leading to premature failure of the element.
7. Lower cooktop and secure back in place.

The repair procedures are pretty straight forward. If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.
