At the bottom of the N40i is a small switch with 1/0, switch it to 0 (off) position, before switching back to 1 (on) keep your finger pressed on the silver "on" button at the top of the unit and this will reset your Navman N40i

How do I set up directions

I am glad to HELP YOU!

Assuming it is completely and fully charged - just TURN ON your device.
Let it locate the satellites.
Once it acquires the position [LONG & LAT] it will show you the position on the map.
Now go to WHERE TO to input your destination.
Choose the CITY, the STREET and the NUMBER or - if your map supports - you can input the ZIP CODE of your destination.
In SETTINGS you have to choose what kind of route do you wish [FASTEST, SHORTEST etc.], what kind of roads to avoid [FERRIES, TOLL ROADS etc.] and from now on you are good to go!

My best regards!

Text to speech incorrect info

Yes, this is basically normal. This is not a shortcoming of the GPS per se, but of the maps that it's using and where on the map it has recorded that certain addresses are located.

The maps that the GPS systems don't (typically, to my knowledge) have every building on them, instead they just have numbers recorded every so often on the street and then the machine interpolates where a particular address ought to be based on known intersections. E.g., 150 Foo Street ought to somewhere around the middle of the 100 block of Foo St. on the "even" side of the street. So this is probably why it thinks your apartment is slightly further up the street than it is; when people build things, we often don't allocate exactly the same amount of frontage to each street number, hence the offsets.

I'm still pretty impressed with my Garmin and doubt I could find my way home without it. Good luck!

Navman N40i compatability with Vista

Solution to get GPS Navman N40I working with Windows Vista.

I solver the problem (most of it) by uninstalling the old activsynk witch was delivered with the manufactory CD. Then I downloaded from “http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/en-us/help/synchronize/device-center.mspx” Windows Mobile Device Center. After installing this software I connected my Navman N40I to my PC and waited to for the Mobile Device Center application to load. When it tried to gain partnership with my GPS I removed it. Voila, and the SmartST Desktop 2006 SE application was able to communicate with my GPS.

Hope this will help you!

Kind regards
Mega A
