My external hdd has is not detecting

Seagate is a company that manufactures external hard drives.

These hard drives can be used to house large files or even to backup an entire hard drive.

When your Seagate external hard drive is not working properly, you might ready to send it into the company for repair.

Before you send it away, you can troubleshoot the problem and potentially save yourself a lot of time and grief.

Look over the power cable going from the wall outlet to the back of the Seagate hard drive. Make sure that there aren't any breaks or tears in the electrical wiring.

If there are breaks, replace the power cord.

Look over the power cable and make sure that it is plugged into the wall outlet in your home as well as plugged into the back of the hard drive.

Plug the power cable directly into the wall outlet or into a surge protector.

Do not plug the power cable into an extension cord.

Seagate Data Cable

Disconnect all of the USB devices that are plugged into your computer's USB ports except for your mouse and your keyboard.

Disconnect the Seagate external hard drive from your computer.

Unplug the power cable from the back of the Seagate external hard drive and restart your computer.

Wait until your computer has fully booted and then plug the power cable back into the hard drive.

Look over the USB data cable to make sure that there are breaks or tears in the cable.

Look over the ends of the cable where they meet the computer and the hard drive.

Make sure the pins are straight.

Replace the cable if needed.

Plug the data cable into the back of the hard drive.

Plug the data cable into your computer.

Hope this helps.

My internal harddisk locked when boot Seagate Barracuda 7200.7 ATA 40 GB

One bad lead can cause a computer to continue on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect/ boot up a computer hard drive

Test all leads that attach to your hard drive including electrical extensions,IDE,SATA

the leads from your "((MOTHERBOARD TO THE HARD DRIVE))" make sure they have a secure connection and are not faulty or just replace them they could be faulty
make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty even the electrical extensions or just replace them they could be faulty a computer needs its connections to continue its cycle and have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error hope this helps

Hard drive not detected what can i do

If your hard drive is not being detected the moment you startup the computer, then try to turn it off and open the computer's casing. Pull the two cables connecting to your hard disk and wait for like 5 minutes before plugging the cables back to it. Then power it back and see if it gets detected. If not, then your harddisk might have failed. You might want to check it though thru the CMOS setup if the Seagate disk drive is still on the list of the Boot devices. If not, then you can do a data recovery by unmounting the harddisk from your computer and put it as a slave drive to another computer or to an external harddisk usb enclosure.

Should you need further assitance, please let me know. Thank you for using FixYa.

My segate 80gb IDE harddisk Board power and header Problem. Please Help me How to recover my data in that hard disk.

There exist commercial "data recovery" services that can try to repair your device, just long-enough to rescue and copy your files. For example, see: https://services.seagate.com/index.aspx?lng=en-US for a "no data - no charge" guarantee.

SATA HDD make SLAVE

IDE Cable with 3 connectors (you have 1 or need to buy 1) :
- blue: conn to motherboard
- black: conn to master HD
- grey: conn to slave HD
Cable (select:) cable will auto detect with most modern HD's from same type (SATA it was i think) and you need to go to you're BIOS, set up cable select for the HD's. Maybe best to set up master first, not both at same time. If you have a SATA and ATA set up the master first, then other. So if SATA is slafe but it in grey connector, otherwise black. For an ATA you might need a converter cable for the power, most motherboards don't have 1.
