Where do wires 1 and 2 go when im fitting a new screen to a compaq prsario C700

I presume you are referring to the Wireless Antenna wires,

http://www.pchub.com/uph/model/0--8407-2/Presario-C700-Series-parts.html?ps=20&type=0

They mount to the Display Enclosure.
The top cover of the laptop when it's closed.
(And mount behind the LCD screen)
One to the Left/Top side, one to the Right/Top side.

Who took it apart?

Think you better have the Service Manual, Mark;

Im lost a CD driver for my Dimension 3100 series...which web i need to search and download?

You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Click on thislink to download the drivers: - http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/index.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen

I need to replace the backlight/inverter assembly on my HP dv6700 series laptop. I have the part. How do I get to the backlight ?

Not that tough at all.

1) Remove all electrical power to the laptop.
The AC adapter (Charger), and Battery.

2) De-Static yourself. Computer hardware components will fry out (Short Circuit) when exposed to Static electricity. Even the Inverter for the Backlight/LCD screen..

The best method is to use an ESD wrist strap (Electro Static Discharge), and connect the alligator clip to a good ground source.
(Average cost is $3 to $8)

Example: http://www.cispc.com/ssproduct.asp?pf_id=1012513515

I connect mine to the metal frame of an empty desktop computer case.
If this is not feasible for you, at least touch a metal doorknob before working on your laptop.
Work on a table. If you leave your laptop in the middle of working on it, be SURE to touch that doorknob again upon your return.

3) I would like you to download the Service Manual (Free), for the Pavilion dv6700 series of notebooks. (Laptop)
From HP Support,

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/manualCategory?lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3636595&

On this page click on -
HP Pavilion dv6500, dv6600, and dv6700 Entertainment PCs - Maintenance and Service Guide.

This is a PDF file. The computer you are on now has Adobe Reader on it, which uses PDF files.
(I would recommend that you go to Adobe Reader Support, and download Adobe Reader 9.3.4 ,if you do not have it on the computer you are using

http://www.adobe.com/support/reader/ )

After you click on the above service manual link, it may take a few seconds before you see the first page.
It will take additional time for the file to fully download.
Watch the download progress bar, and let the file fully download before looking through it.

If you are aware of the following, please disregard:
You can save this PDF service manual to the computer you are using now.
This way you can burn it to a CD disk, and have it for future reference any time you want.

(You can also delete it from the computer you are using now after burning a copy, and save harddrive space. Plus you won't have to download it again)

If you are not aware of how to perform this, please post in a Comment.

At the top header of the PDF file is the Page Number box. To the right of the blue Down Arrow.
The expedient method of going directly to a page, is to;

1) Put your mouse cursor in the page number box
2) Left-click once
3) Type the page number
4) Press the Enter key

Go to Page 49
In item number 5 where it states, "Flex the inside edges of the left and right sides (1) and the bottom edge (2) of the display bezel until the bezel disengages from the display enclosure"

The Display Bezel is the thin frame, going around the Front outside edges of the LCD screen.

Gently lift the inside edge of the frame with a fingernail.
Use caution so that you Do Not scratch the LCD screen protective outer layer.
[The inside edge is the edge towards the middle of the LCD screen]

Work on lifting part of the Display Bezel's edge up. Go along with the tip of your finger, and keep working the edge up as you go along.
You will hear a pop-pop-pop as you gently pry the bezel up, and out.

There are plastic protrusions coming from the Display Bezel, that snap into place in the Top Cover of the Display Assembly. Their releasing is the pop sound you hear.
Didn't want you to think you were breaking anything.

[Use care as the Display Bezel IS plastic, BUT it is a space age plastic, and is Pretty Tough! ]

(In case you cannot download the Service Manual, be aware that there are 2 Philips head screws to remove FIRST!
They are at the Bottom outside corners.
There are 2 rubber-like screw covers to remove, that cover these screws)

Now you will see the Display Inverter, and the two cables leading to it.
The left side cable is the Display Panel cable.
(Power and signal to the LCD screen. {Display}
The right cable is the Backlight cable.

GENTLY wiggle, and ease off the connectors for these two cables, from the Inverter.
Do Not pull on the wires!

You'll have to look closely to see the parting line of where the two connectors meet.
The Display cable, and the Backlight cable have the male connector.
The Inverter has the female connector.

Use your fingernail and thumbnail, to ease the male connector out of the female connector. The thickness, of the side of the male connector, is approximately 1/8th inch.

Hi There,

Your laptop needs some troubleshooting and here's the fastest (and free) way to locate your issue. Get to a friend's place (or at home) where there's a regular desktop computer monitor and connect your laptop to it. Look up at the top row of "F" keys (1 thru 12) and find the one that looks like it has to do with a monitor. With your laptop connected to the external monitor, press the "fn" key in the lower left of keyboard and hold it doen while your press the monitor transfer F key above.

If your laptop's normal display shows on the big monitor, then you just have a bad sceen that needs replacement. If all is dark on both, then your video card inside the laptop has faild and a new motherboard is needed.

Kind Regards,

TheSelkie
