I am trying to set up a laptop to work via router, I alredy have this laptop connected, but it asks for my network or WEP key I think, which I don't know how to find

First of all, need to know what OS you are using, since it will make difference as to how you connect. If running WXP or W2K, then after you plug in the computer to the network, you will need to do the following:

1. Since it has not been on a network before, you wiill need to logon as a local administrator

2. Right-mopuse click on My Network places ans select PROPERTIES.

3. Right-mouse click on the LOCAL AREA CONNECTION icon ans select PROPERTIES. Select the TCP/IP option, then select PROPERTIES. Use either the DHCP option or the Static IP option depending on what your network is using (check with your network administrator). Use the ADVANCED tab to configure any DNS or WINS options. Close back to the Local Area Connection Ico area.

4. Make sure that nothing is highlighted, then slect the Network Identification Option (this is also avaialble under the Advanced Tab in the pull-down menues). Follow the steps to add the system to the network. You will need to have permissions to be able to add a copmuter onto the domain. If you don't have those permissions, then you will need to have someone with those permissions add the system for you.

I have installed my Range Plus Router and I am trying to add my wireless laptop to the system and connect my printer to the laptop I am lost

Hey,

its a pretty complicated process, I'm sure one of our experts could guide you on a live chat session.

but basicly, you need to connect the laptop to the same network as the others are connected to, have a look at the settings from the computer that is already connected to the wireless network and then use the same settings on the laptop, network name etc.

The printer.. it debends.

I'm sure one of our experts can assist you in more detail in a live chat session.

You can also contact geeksquad maybe they could come over and set it up for you.

Thanks,
Ekse

Have wireless network at home trying to add my sons laptop to network but have forgot security key/passphrase which laptop is asking for

All you need to do is log into the router usually with the pc that is attached to the router (wired) by typing into the run command box http://192.168.1.1 Depending on the brand of router you'll either put in admin and no password or admin for the password or admin and password for password. Once in the router go to the wireless security tab and you can see the network key. Hope this helps

Need to add a wirless code to laptop so it will geta wirless signal

For wireless connection you need a wireless adaptor in your laptop. Most of the laptop comes with wireless adaptor. If you have one then go to control panel--> network connection--> right click on wireless connection and view available networks in your area.

Please note : If you see a lock sign in front of a network it means that network is secured and you cant access it without password.

Please mail me if you need any other help or if something is not clear in my answer
Please rate my answer and Good luck !!

Right click on the tv symbol along the bottom of the screen, view available wireless networks and your desktop should be listed, giving you the option to connect, unless you have put security onto the network, in that case you should know the password.

Need to add new laptop computer to home network. Don't have security key for Motorola SBG900 Wireless Surfboard. Can you help me.

it depend upon what operating system you got

Windows Xp

right click on my computer icon the click properties and select tab computer name click change and add the same workgroup name as in the rest of the pcs also note down there IP address range.

Some laptop requires to create wirless access profile prior to connect some will create after we connect.

On your laptop enable the wireless switch and make sure its on down in the system tray (next to the time) you can see wireless icon right click and view wireless network then it will show all the wireless around its range click your connection and press connect if it connects its fine otherwise you have to manually enter the ip address for your new laptop according to your home network ip catergory.

Most of the laptop use their own wireless management software which they disable wireless zero service in windows which you have to take care - one only works at a time.

Further assistance after you try the above and if your unsuccessful please write in brief with model type and os

We recently enstalled a Wireless-G Broadband Router (WRT54G2). Everything is fine trying to go from Desktop to Toshiba Laptop. I am on Comcast and can't get on line with the laptop. Our laptop keeps...

6. Once the Wireless Network Connection Properties window is open you will have two options depending on how you set up your laptop.
· If you do not see any networks listed in Preferred or Available networks, you will have to manually add the SSID. Click on Add. You will have to enter the SSID and WEP key (if required). Click OK and you should then see the network you just added in the Available networks box.

· If you see the correct SSID showing in the Available Networks, then you need to click on Configure in order to enter the WEP key if that is required.

2. In the next window, enter the SSID for the Wi-Fi network you want to access. Make sure you do not have CAPS lock or NUM lock while entering the information. If a network key is required, click on "Data Encryption and then enter the Network key you have been provided with. Again make sure you do not have CAPS or NUM lock on. Click OK when entered. If you have entered the key incorrectly a message will pop up and you will need to re-enter the key.

3. Next go to Start - and where it says Connect To click on that and you should see choices like in the graphic below. Click on Wireless Network Connection and it should work.

There are occasions when the connection doesn't work, in these cases check your firewall software and make sure it allows you to connect to the Wi-Fi network. To check this, disable your firewall software and check the connection again. If you can connect with the firewall program disabled, you change your settings. If your firewall program is not the problem check the SSID and WEP key information that you entered. Both of these are case sensitive. If you had obtained SSID information from the Internet, check with someone in the establishment to see if the SSID has been changed.
