Heard a loud pop and no picture - Turned off and got sound for about 60 seconds and now nothing - Finding a repair shop in the morning!!!

Our 42HP66 Plasma lost it's picture with a loud SNAP followed by a sound failure a few minutes later. After a cool down, only the sound returned on restart. The set was manufactured in April of 2006.

Watching TV, heard a pop and videao went out. Sound is good. Seems like a problem with these TVs. Does anyone know what Toshiba has to say? There is a class action suit for the DLP TVs manufacturered between 2004 and 2006.

I don't need to go into details, as you've all said it before. This is the second TV we've had from Toshiba. The first failed within warranty and they gave us a new one, the "upgraded" model. Less than 2 years later, same thing. A pop and no picture. DO NOT BUY THIS TV!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have the exact same problem. Back of TV shows manufactured date as 2006. Purchased from best buy 2006. March 1st 2009 heard a loud pop then no picture. Taking it to be diagnosed. But if there is a problem with these tv's Toshiba should do something about it!

It is probably the power supply. Parts and labor from an authorized Toshiba repair shop was over $400 and the replacement power supply also failed after only a couple of months, luckily the repair shop replaced it the second time for free. Turns out that Toshiba uses LG parts in their TV.

Never, repeat: NEVER purchase a Toshiba product unless you have so much cash you do not know what to do with it.

SOURCE: No picture on my Toshiba 42HP66 plasma tv.

I too have this problem with no help from hh Gregg, where I bought the tv, and no help from Toshiba. I resorted to calling the BBB and complaining about the defective workmanship. I took the tv, which is less than 2 years old, apart and found the y-sus board, behind the y-sus board is a foam rubber spacer to seperate the circut board from the backside of the screen. I think this pad is designed to prevent heat buildup in the y-sus board. The pad itself is held on by glue and that glue melted causing the y-sus board to short out. I noticed this after finding a tacky substance behind the board. The heat from the plasma screen melted this and also the pad itself. Toshiba claims no resposibility because the tv was out of warranty. Thanks Toshiba.

No picture but have sound

That click might have originated in 2 places: either it was the main relay disconnecting or it was the sound of a capacitor popping. Both are very severe problems - they signal that the power source of your tv has just failed.
Fixing it is a job for someone with electronics experience, if you're not one then call a repairman.
