Vacuum power won't shut off

The vacuum does not shut off even when the switch is set to off. We replaced the switch and it did not help.

Hi, I'm having the same problem with a Kenmore 116-26312601 from Sears. I checked their website for repair parts and found something called a "p.c.b." that looks like a circuit board. Would that be where the relay is? Here's the parts list: Sears

    Thanks for your help!

My Kenmore (Sears) canister vacuum has the same problem of not shutting off with the handle switch (model # 116.22749600C). The switch in the handle was replaced. The vacuum does not shut-off when the hose is disconnected from the canister body as it did when new. This condition happened a few weeks after warranty. Can anyone tell me what needs to be repaired? Sounds to me that it is a relay but the parts list doesn't show a relay unless it is attached to the motor. Perhaps it is a circuit board? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

You didn't give brand and model number, some vacuums have a relay in them and they stick and stay on. If you have one, it will have to be replaced.

SOURCE: VACUUM WON'T SHUT OFF

Need a model number to be sure, but alot of the Sears cannisters have a relay and it is found mounted in the motor comparment, it may be sticking in the on position.

Hi. My vacuum won't power up. The plug-in is OK. Is there a re-set on the motor I can try? Thank you, Vic

Need to know which vacuum it is. The more reasonable vacuums will not have a reset. You probably are missing a filter that needs to be cleaned. Your cord could be bad or even the plug on it. Depending on what it is worth and how much you like it, you should take it to a vacuum shop.

Central vacuum won't start even after depressing the reset button on the carpet sweeper. Hose and wand appear to be unclogged.

Is it only the power head that's not working, or the central vacuum itself? Disconnect wands from hose, turn on, and hold hand over hose end to check for suction. If none, go through first set of steps below.

If the vacuum:
1. Press reset button on vacuum.
2. Check circuit breaker at the circuit box to make sure it's ON.
3. Make sure the unit is plugged in completely.
4. Use a voltage tester to check for power at the outlet.
5. Check filter. If dirty rinse it with warm water, and allow to dry thoroughly. I strongly suggest having a second filter for use during drying, then just trade off using them.

If the vacuum still doesn't turn on, consider the following:]
Broken or worn out power switch in hose handle...Switch needs replaced.
Broken wire in hose...Replace hose.
Bad connection...Needs taken to an authorized Aerus service center for check and repair.

If the power nozzle (suction at end of hose, but power nozzle doesn't work:
1. Ensure the brush has been thoroughly cleaned of any hair, string, and other items that may have wrapped around it.
2. Power nozzle motor runs, but brush doesn't turn when vacuum is on...belt needs replaced.
3. Power nozzle motor does not run...All wiring, connections, and motor need to be checked.

If you can't determine the problem with the above helps, the entire machine, including hose, wands, and power nozzle, needs to be taken to an authorized Aerus service center for complete check.
If you don't know the location of the nearest Aerus Electrolux store, go to below site, type in zip code, and click on "view dealer list". They may also be able to send someone to pick it up.

The reset button on the "sweeper" is only to start the "sweeper" motor after it has shut off due to the brush getting jammed. It doesn't effect the vacuum operation.

Kenmore vac won't shut off, blowing heavy air from vent

For the stack of problems you have, it sounds like it be best for you to ditch it and get a new vacuum. The heavy problem sounds like a motor issue. The burning smell is most likely from the belt being loose on the power head.

Economically, you should just get a new one instead of replacing the whole system guts

Vacuum will not shut off

Sounds like you have wires crossed at the switch. The 2 wires coming in go to the center posts, 2 to the power head & 2 to the main motor.

Kirby vacuum problem

I suspect the safety/power switch. When nozzle is on the Kirby the protrusion on the nozzle casting must press the switch on the front of the unit (circled in red in the pictures below). See if that protrusion is not chipped off. It may be that a hook or even both are damaged (circled in blue) so nozzle is a bit loose and when you bump something it nozzle moves just releases the switch enough to shut the vacuum off. Hold the nozzle and try to move it. See if it is loose on the unit or not.
It could be the faulty switch too.
