Question about Kenmore 80412 Microwave Oven

Ewave kot-131UB pops breaker

I was pre-cooking chicken for bar-b-que, 5 breasts on a plate with a plastic splatter over. Unit came with house I bought 2 months ago so age unknown. After a 3 minute cook, unit pops breaker when door opened. Repeats this event 2 more times with additional cooking cycles. Now just opening door pops breaker. Is there a critical door switch that can go bad? I connected unit to a different 20A branch on countertop and it popped that breaker too. Unit is currently unplugged, and was setup to vent into room. Ser # is 20904519, manufacture date not legible. Repair or replace?

TIA

I decided the unit wasn't worth fixing based on several factors.
The keypad was already pretty difficult to operate and the unit didn't
seem to cook evenly compared to other microwaves I had used. It
was also black and really darkened that part of the kitchen. When
I removed the unit I discovered it was on a single 20A branch circuit
that already included the refrigerator and 3 of the 4 counter
outlets. I had a small microwave from my previous apartment that
only drew 10A (vs 14.6) so I built a shelf for it over the stove, and
also moved the toaster oven to another underutilized
branch. Neither the neutral or the branch hot showed ant
signes of heat damage from potential overdraws.

Thanks for the help. Even though I didn't fix the microwave, I
did discover some problems that would have gone undetected had I not
been required to remove it from the wall. In the long run this
will be seen as a pretty cheap problem.

Yes, this is caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door or loose door switch mount.

Even though a door switch clicks, it may still be bad inside. Its continuity must be checked.

Door switch or mount trouble can be caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.
