Go to control panel and add new hardware. If the computer does not see it, check the cables and then consider purchasing a new cdr/rw

after you click control panel and add new hardware, the computer should look for your device if you so tell it.

I recently bought a used TEAC CDWE552-GB CD Burner for my old computer. I received the power cord and cable to power it up but not the cables to attach it to my computer ( HP Pavilion 4550Z ). The ports on...

Unfortunately, I don't think you can use this CD writer on the HP Pavilion 4550Z directly. The CDWE552-G is an external USB device. The HP Pavilion 4550Z doesn't have any USB ports.

There are two options that I think you could consider. 1) Get a USB card to insert into the micro-tower. It's currently easier to find PCI USB 2.0 cards, see for some examples. Before purchasing, check to make sure the card is compatible with the OS on the HP Pavilion 4550Z. It started with Windows 98. You will have to remove the Fax/modem to use that slot. (An ISA card might work but I haven't seen an ISA bus USB card in years.)

2) Take the CD writer out of the external case. The CDWE552 should use an IDE cable; just swap this CD writer for the one in the micro-tower. The HP Pavilion 4550Z should have the appropriate cables inside the tower. The original CD reader specifications indicate it was an IDE device.

I hope this helps.

I am looking for a hp lightscribe dvd supermulti drive/cd writer that is compatable with a hp pavilion a720n desk top computer and all so a dvd/cd rom combo that is compatable with ...

Any brand-new CD/DVD reader/writer with LightScribe *WILL* be compatible with your HP.
Check whether your "power" and "data" cables are the "old" style (white power connector and a 80-pin ribbon-cable) or the "new" style (thin SATA cables), before you buy a writer with the "wrong" (PATA versus SATA) interface.

Most likely not, the power source is dead, replace it. It's a standard ATX source, any 400W one you can buy from all IT shop will do.

Hp cd-writer Not Working

Depending on what HP computer/cd-writer it is the type of disc you are using may not be supported.
Older cd-writers often had a specific type they could write to, CD -r / CD +r.

You should try to find out what kind of discs are supported by your cd-writer. This CAN be located in text on the front of the cd-writer.
