Does the computer turn on? If it does not the beep codes indicate a problem with RAM or video card. if the computer comes on and seems to run that could indicate that it is detecting a part that is too hot. I would need more information to determine the exact cause of the problem but that will hopefully point you in the right direction.

Well, It sounds like there is something lodged in your Hardware drive...The beeping is probably a warning signal to tell you that it is not properly booting up...You should go to a Computer Repairman...

My HP a749c randomly shuts down

sounds like you have a hardware problem. I thinking it is the motherboard, but you can try by taking out other parts (cd drive, hard drive, ram, etc) and if the part does not change anything then it is not the problem part and can be placed back in.

On startup the hard drive makes continuous beeping sound and small orange light comes on

Its not Hard Drive that makes beeping sound its your mainboard. Check in Bios (if possible) that HD is recognised properly. Disconnect HD form computer and then start computer without HD to see wheather the problem is still there. If not, connect another HD (preferably not more than 40 GB) and use a new IDE cable if applicable. Some HP PCs record in Bios their original HD serial number preventing replacement of HD. In worst case the HD controller on Mainboard is not working properly or may be defected.

My computer turns on but my monitor screen stays blank my key board lights dont come onim wondering if this is my harddrive because it doesnt make any noise when i turn it on

Hi,
Its highly unlikely that its the hard drive as a computer will still show a post or splash screen without a hard drive being installed.
Is the computer making any beeping sounds?

Please offer advice if you can.my job is seriously on the line. My Lacie D2 external hard drive power failed today while in use on a Mac using pro-tools music software I foolishly had not backed up some...

You don't mention if there is any clicking coming from the drive - so I'll suggest this...

Crack open the enclosure and remove the drive (this will void your warranty,) find matching I/O and PWR cables and just connect the drive to your Mac. If you hear clicking - then your dive is mucked up. If you can READ from the drive, the enclosure has an issue and should be addressed to the manufacturer for replacement.
