I've also had this problem with TWO separate lg420g phones. I find it happens every time I use the alarm function, then drains the battery in less than one day. The trick seems to be to turn off the phone, then turn it back on again to clear out whatever causes the light to stay on. Works every time for me, but is a real pain.
all you do is go into your security and settings and reset the phone. it will turn the phone on and back off again. but this should fix the problem and restore the ability to get into your display settings, as well as view your date and time.
Does the Verizon logo flash when you plug it in? I had this same problem. Take the battery off. Plug the phone in. Observe the flashing logo. Put the battery back in. Observe "Charging..." screen. Power on. Unplug. Good to go.
i have the same problem, i thought it completely blacked out, but i realized it was just the main backlight. i can see it if i hold a flashlight to it, but i tried everything to fix it, and ive had no luck.
