I just bought a Philips Universal remote. I have gone through 4 different Universal remotes previously and none will work. Today as I was trying to get my TV code setup on the Philips remote, it stopped at the appropriate code and I pressed "Mute" as it instructed to save the code to the remote. It doesn't work. When I try to change channels or the volume it doesn't work. The remote is a Philips Universal Remote for 6 devices, PH63S. My tv is a Magnavox 27MS343S 27" TV . Any ideas? It is also not working for my brand-new DVD/VCR combo.

Philips universal remote control cannot be synchronised with Apex Digital TV. There is no code for Apex with it. There are very rare remote controls which have codes with Apex Digital. Comcast On Demand Custom DVR 3-Device Universal Remote Control is one amoung them. Codes for Apex Digital Tv; with this remote are:
0748, 0765, 0767
Buy this one. It can be sychronised with most of the present devices. OK.
Most universal or multi-brand remotes will control a TV's basic functions, but almost none will support advanced functions like menus. If the TV doesn't have a front panel menu button, the best solution is to buy a universal remote of the same brand as the TV. If you get a Zenith universal remote, it should have a menu button that will work with the TV.
I had the same problem with a broken remote for the Akai CT-2868AT which meant I could not access the AV channel. I bought the one-for-all (model URC-7711) universal remote which worked with this model TV.
Most universal remotes are not compatible for your set. I would suggest to order the original from Philips.
Universal remotes are only good for simple functions. Many of them cannot get in to the menus, and reliably work all the functions of the sets. This has to do with the complexity of all the many thousands of protocol codes that the universal manufacture has to impliment in to his low cost product!
Yippie, I figured out a solution that worked!!! I have a univeral remote from comcast, on that remote near the bottom left is a small button that says (input) tv/vcr, press that one time and whala!! the tv video screen was gone, I had to manually change the channel from the tv channel button on the unit. once I changed the channel to 3, my universal remote worked... the button is the second one from the bottom left... I was on hold with sanyo for a long time and just kept trying on my own, so good luck!!!!
Please be informed that the codes vary with different make and model of the universal remote that you have. If none of the codes above work, please post back with make and model of your universal remote included.
