Windows XP: How to release and renew IP addresses

IP addresses can either be assigned manually or automatically. When they are assigned automatically, a DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server hands them out and determines which computer or other device gets which address. This process usually flows smoothly, but there are times when you may need to release or renew an IP address even when using DHCP.

There are several ways to release and renew IP addresses in Windows XP. Each procedure is described below.

From the system notification tray:

1. Right click on the network connection icon in the system notification tray.
2. Select Repair. Windows will automatically release the current IP address, reset the network connection, and request an IP address from the DHCP server. (The new IP address that gets assigned may be a different one from before, or it may be the same one.)

From the Start menu:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Right click on My Network Places.
3. Select Properties.
4. Right click on the network connection that is currently in use.
5. Select Repair. (If you choose a network connection that is not in use, Repair will be grayed out.)

For either of the above methods, you can release and renew your IP address manually by clicking Disable instead of Repair, and then right-clicking and choosing Enable.

From the command prompt:

1. Click the Start button.
2. Click Run.
3. Type "cmd" and press [Enter].
4. At the command line, type "ipconfig /release" and press [Enter].
5. Type "ipconfig /renew" and press [Enter].
6. Type "exit" and press [Enter].

Error code 52100

Hi there! There are a couple options you could try to solve this problem!

To solve this error :

I would first check Nintendo's special notes router infomation page located here.

  • If you can't locate your router on Nintendo's special notes router information page, log into your router and change the basic rate to 1-2 and the transmission rate to 2. Try to connect again.
  • You can try to manually assign an IP address to the Nintendo DS as another device may be sharing the same IP address of the Nintendo DS.
  • To manually assign an IP address to the Nintendo DS, on a PC click Start > Run > type CMD and press Enter > type IPCONFIG/ALL and press Enter. On Windows Vista, click Start > type CMD in the Start Search box > click on CMD icon > type IPCONFIG/ALL and press Enter. The IP address for the Nintendo DS must be 10 digits higher than your PC, for example 192.168.1.200 becomes 192.168.1.210. Also make sure that the correct DNS is the entered under the DS manual settings.
Hopefully one of these options is your answer and you can easily fix your problem! Good luck! If you need any further assistance I would suggest calling Nintendo at 1-800-255-3700.

How to assign IP address through command prompt. Kindly share the screen shot as well ?

STEPS TO ASSIGN STATIC IP ON ANY INTERFACE THROUGH COMMAND PROMPTExample IP's ,Subnet, gateway
1. Click on start

2. Click on Run and type cmd. Press OK.

Now the command prompt will be opened.

3. Type the command

netsh interface ip set address name="Local Area Connection" static 192.168.1.5 255.255.255.0 192.168.1.1

Where Local Area Connection is the interface name.

The static IP address we assigned to the interface is 192.168.1.5.

The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

The default gateway address is 192.168.1.1

Windows system error: "an IP address conflict wit...

This error indicates that you have two devices on your network that have the same ip address assigned to them.

If you have have ip addresses manually assigned to your network devices you can open a command prompt and enter IPCONFIG, this will tell you what the ip address is of the device that is giving you the error. This ip address is assigned to another device on your network.

You can either change the ip address of the device you are receiving the error from or find the device with the same ip address and change that one.

Alternatively, if you have a router that that has DHCP enabled you can change the properties on your network adapters to obtain the ip address automatically by going to Network Connections, right click on LAN connection and click properties.

No ip address

Network Card's driver is not installed. Check and install drivers from Device Manager Window.

IP Address can be assigned automatically(through APIPA/DHCP) or Manually.

Automatic:
There is no DHCP server, it takes the Automatic Private IP address(APIPA) or else get it from DHCP server by using "ipconfig" command
Steps: Start>accessories>command prompt>ipconfig /renew

Manually:
Right click on My Network Places> Properties>Right click on Local Area connection>Properties>General Tab>select Internet Protocol(TCP/IP)> Properties>General> select "Use the following IP address> assign IP, Subnet Mask, Gateway and DNS> Press OK Tab.

How to know the MAC address of my infoprint . In the config menu I got one but contains only 5 groups

If the printer is configured and has got a TCP/IP address, you can get the MAC mapping from any Windows PC in the same network like this:

Start -> Run Command -> enter "CMD" and press Enter -> type the command, PING ip.addr.of.printer (enter) and then ARP -a ip.addr.of.printer (enter).

If your network's IP addresses are centrally managed, ask your system administrator if it's possible to temporarily assign a fixed IP address for diagnostic purposes, then assign that address to the printer and do as described above.

No ip address on computer

IP addresses are generally assigned when you connect to another networking device such as a router, switch, or modem. You should first go to your Network Connections and right click on your networking device and click on properties. Click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and hit properties. Then click on the box that says Obtain IP address automatically and Obtain DNS server address automatically. Now when you make connection with the router, switch or modem it should assign you an IP address. If this doesn't happen then you need to check your network cable, or wireless log in proceedure to find out why you're not connecting. These rules aren't for all systems. Some ISPs may require you to put in DNS servers and IP addresses. If the above doesn't help then contact your ISP to find out if there are specific settings. You can also view your Network Configuration settings by going to "Start" > "Run" cmd then in the window type /ipconfig /all. If you're connected properly you should have IP address, default gateway, DNS server and DHCP servers.

I cant log into my router even though I am using the 192.168.1.1 subnet mask

Go to run type in cmd a dos prompt will appear.

type in ipconfig /all and check your ip address. Chances are your ip address is 169.x.x.x which is an internal ipaddress. You will need to manually assign an ip address To do this go to my network click on view connections right mouse click the lan icon then go to the tcp/ip config and manually assign your ip address.

It needs to be the same subnet as your router so use 192.168.1.xx anything but 1 then you should be fine.

good luck
