If the recovery program is corrupt, you will have to start from scratch using the recovery disc or a windows op system disc.

I believe you're having problem with the Operating System on your computer. Unfortunately, Lenovo will not provide a product key for the Operating System since the an OEM version. What you can do is reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery Sofware or the Recovery Disc that came with the computer. Follow these steps for you to be able to reinstall the Operating System using the One Key Recovery.

    1. Turn off the computer.

    2. Press the little button near the power button, it usually do have a drawing of an icon that looks like a horse shoe or a headset.

    3. There will be a window that will appear which do have three option, One Key Antivirus, One Key Recovery and System Setup. Choose One key Recovery.

    4. There will be another window that will appear which do have two option, Restore from initial backup and Restore from user backup,Choose Restore from initial back up

    5. It will asked you if you want to continue, Just click on OK or YES.

    6. Once done, Reboot the computer.

    For Recovery Disc,

    1. Insert the disc inside the drive.

    2. Turn off the computer then turn it back on and keep on tapping F12

    3. There will a window that will appear which do have three options, HDD,ODD/DVD/CD, and NAT, choose ODD/DVD/CD

    4. It will asked you to press any key immediately, you will need to press any key immediately so that it will boot from ODD.

    5. It will asked you to choose a partition, choose Disc 0 partition 1

    6. Reboot computer once done.

I hope this information will be helpful. Thank you for using FixYa...

Each computer manufacturer has a special key you have to hit WHEN YOU POWER ON the computer Here are some of the keys,
HP and Compaq desktops/towers use F10,
E Machines and Gateway PC use F11,
    Toshiba laptop F12,
    Sony PC F10 .
    IBM and Lenovo F11
Here is the trick- power the computer off, and then power it back on and start tapping the appropriate key eg F10 until a screen pops up saying "DO YOU WANT TO DO A SYSTEM RESTORE" Once this system restore window opens, stop tapping and just follow the instructions. Some of the older computers may ask you for the restore discs so have those ready. Most newer computers do not need restore discs. The whole system restore could take 2 or 3 hours. When done, reboot your computer and it should be all new and speedy again.

How to rescue and recover IBM NetVista when I start the computer?

When the computer boots, you should see a screen with something like this:

"To start the Product Recovery Program, press F11".

So, press the F11 key at that time and you should get steps to put your machine back in (more or less) factory condition (the software will be --- unfortunately, there's no such thing as a time machine for the hardware ;-)

If you have files you want to keep, BE SURE and back them up by copying them somewhere before you do this. In most manufacturer's "recovery" programs, the first thing they do is re-format the hard disk, so any files and programs you've installed since you bought it will be *GONE*.

    Good luck with your recovery!

I was just on my ibm t43 and it froze so i manually turned it off now it wont turn back on. it acts like it is going to then it pops up a screen that say an problem has been detected

    Hello, Meagan.

Sounds like an operating system problem.

Boot your system to Safe Mode (press F8 repeatedly). Go to System Restore and choose a date when your system worked OK. Note: with System Restore, everything, including your documents and other files you saved on the hard drive, will roll back to that date.

If you can't access System Restore by Safe Mode, try Offline System Restore:
    1. Boot from the DVD
    2. Select the Language
    3. Click on "Repair your Computer" on the Install now screen
    4. Click next on the System Recovery Options screen
    5. Click on System Restore.
    6. Choose the date to which you want to restore

If still a problem, the last choices are Factory Restore and reinstall. Accessing Factory Restore (restores to the factory settings and will wipe out anything that you have installed or saved on your PC), is dependent on your hardware manufacturer. Boot your system and press F10, F11, Alt+F10, or Ctrl+F11 to access Factory Restore. Follow the prompts.

If still not resolved, you'll probably need to reinstall your operating system.

    Hope this helps.

Ibm thinkpad t43 windows xp it has ad-block from

Hi, During the boot at the THINKPAD SCREEN press the Thinkvantage key ( Blue button ) it will launch rescue and recovery and allow you to reboot factory. This only works if you did not corrupted/deleted the rescue and recovery hidden partition on the HDD. Otherwise you will need the rescue and recovery CD to proceed. IBM/Lenovo support should be able to provide you the CD. Might be a defective hdd aswell, in this case to make sure you can run a DFT test, -> Look up for " Test DFT " ( Drive fitness tool from hitachi, will make an hardware diag if hdd failure - error code 0x00 = everything fine, other code = Issue - You can look up for accurate code explanation on hitachi website ) thanks and have a nice day J-

Can i restore my ibm x30 back to factory settings

One way: take the "System Restore" set of CD-ROMs that were originally shipped with the computer, and boot from the first CD.

If you have lost those CDs, there may be a "recovery partition" on the disk-drive -- when you turn the computer on, look for a "Press F11 to enter Product Recovery" prompt. Press F11.

Contact IBM. For about $60, they will ship a replacement set of those "System Restore" CD-ROMs to you.

If you have windows XP, not sure about Vista!!

This is called a "system recovery"
My windows XP, was already loaded on my computer, when I bought it. These instructions, will clean everything off of your hard drive, so you must back up anything that you want to save. I have done this three times, and I got these instructions, from a computer tech. When starting your computer, tap the F-10 key. click on next-yes-and follow the instructions, that come up on your screen. When you are finished, your computer will look just like it did when you first bought it. Do these steps, in order, when finished.
    1. set up windows firewall
    2. windows update (click express) important!! From the start menu!
    3. install your anti-virus program (update)
    4. install anti-spyware (update)
    5. Install service pack 2...3..Good Luck.
All this information is stored on a hidden partition, on your hard drive....Good Luck..

    Stuck on ibm splash screen.

If system does not start on your A21 you may need to reinstall the system. To perform a recovery or repair, do the following:

Make backup copies of your data files, if possible. Any files on drive C that are not backed up will be lost.
Do one of the following (for best results, use the F11 method):

If you are using the Product Recovery program for recovery purposes, turn off your computer for at least 5 seconds. Press and hold the F11 key while you restart the computer. When the Product Recovery program starts, release the F11 key.

Note: If pressing the F11 key does not start the Product Recovery program, then your recovery partition is corrupted, in this case you will need to use a Recovery Repair diskette.

If you are using the Product Recovery CD for recovery purposes, place the CD in the drive (if you have more than one Product Recovery CD, use Product Recovery CD 1). Then, restart the computer. The Product Recovery program starts.

    Do one of the following:

If a menu is displayed giving you an opportunity to select an operating system, use the arrow keys to move to the appropriate operating system, press Enter, and then continue with the next step.

If an operating system menu is not displayed, continue with the next step.

From the Product Recovery program Main menu, make the appropriate selection (IBM Rapid Restore PC, Factory Contents, or System Utilities), and then press Enter.
Follow the instructions on the screen.

If your recovery partition is gone this company is offering a download of A21 restore disks for $19. You will need to download from them on a computer with cdrw, and then burn your recovery cd yourself.
