Kodak EasyShare Z710 - Lens won't retract or close

I've had this Kodak EasyShare Z710 for about a year. I had to have work on it once before because of a lens problem. That time, it wouldn't open. Now, the last time I used it, the lens opened just fine, I took a couple pictures, then the lens stopped working and the screen went black. Now the zoom lens won't close at all. I know it's the lens and not the screen because I have no problem reviewing my previous pictures on the screen. I don't want to try and force the lens closed and possibly break it! I think I'm just beyond my warranty so I can't send it in without paying quite a bit. If there is something I could do to mechanically repair it (I am a computer tech so working on hardware is not new to me), that would be excellent! I await your response!

Oops, wrong one. But I too have the same problem and I am really not happy at the cost of this camera and the length of time it worked. Not a good product. However, if I could get it to open and stay turned on, that would be wonderful. any help is appreciated. See other post for email address.

Same thing happened to mine 3 months after I bought it. Store made me send it to Kodak because it was still under their warranty. They kept it for months and told me I dropped it so it wasn't covered. The camera was never dropped. I took it to back to Office Max with my extended warranty and they told me to call MaxAssurance. They refused to fix it. Went back to Office Max and the salesperson said it was covered, just email and get a shipping label. MaxAssurance said they won't fix it. I am SO frustrated!

I have the exact same problem. I've had my z710 zoom for almost a year and I tried to turn it on and the lens was stuck. I need to use my camera for school so I'm in a real dilemma and dont know how to get it fixed without paying a bunch of money that I dont have. If you find an answer I would greatly appreciate sharing. [email protected]

The glass front lens of mine is broken but the mechanism works fine, so thats the only part I need..Kodak said $211.00 for the whole lens, so I'm watching for damaged Z710's for sale all over the net..I've bookmarked this page..If I get one that has the working lens, I'll just use the front glass and let you guys know.hopefully somebody would do the same for me.I'm not a salesman, Thanks...Bill

I also have the same problem. My lens is stuck in the "out" position. The camera tries to turn on, but after about 5 seconds, it shuts down again. I have changed batteries, but it hasn't helped. The lens won't retract and the camera will not work.

Any solutions out there?

I too had the same problem. We were told we were using the wrong bateries, so we made sure that we used the correct ones, and it happened again and now the warranty is out and I can't send it to be fixed. If anyone has any idea what the problem is, please email me at [email protected].

Some cameras can be used as a webcam, however i dont think Kodak thought this through and therefore did not provide software for webcam on the cd.

Our kodak easyshare z710 got wet. Have tried drying it out overnight. Any hope that it will work again?

hello there!
I suggest that you remove the battery and open any closed location, but do not unscrew it unless it is no longer covered with the warranty. But perhaps, better yet to bring your digicam to a service center to further check the electronic parts internally.

Kodak EasyShare C513 lens cover will not open fully automatically. tap on side of lens and the baffles will open and camera works. turn camera off, lens retracts and baffles close. have tried blowing any...

I had a friend that ran into the same problem, but his solution is not what I would recommend but it did work for him. He used sewing machine oil and applied a tiny amount less than a drop to the crevice of the camera body and the outer lens housing, his was stuck in the retracted position, and he got it going again without a problem.

I dropped our Kodak Z710

Doubt it. Kodaks are notorious for the lens becoming knocked out of line when dropped. I had an older model that a child knock off a 3 foot high table and it never worked again. Best thing is to find a local repair shop, call in to Kodak for assistance, or look for another camera.

Lens jammed will not retract, canon pc1147 zoom

I have had the same issue were the lens would not retract. took it in for extended warranty work. lens now retracts but takes lousy pictures.

When I purchased this camera family members ran out and bought thiers shortly after I did. One by one the same issue has happend to their v1253's.

I dissmantled one and found that there is a tiny battery on the power board inside of the camera. apparently the tiny battery's life is about 1 1/2 years. This battery is not serviceable as it is welded in place. I am not one hundred percent sure if this is the cause but it makes sense.

It would be nice if kodak would own up to this issue and make good on repairs as they did with my kodak 5500 all-in-one printer and it's crappy print head. Kodak has sent me 4 print heads in the 2 years I have owned it.

I have 5 of the v1253's in my family and every one of the are dead. I would think a $250 product should last longer than 1 1/2 years.
hope this helps.
