If you have a Windows XP disc (Assuming you were using XP) all you have to do is put the disc in the drive and reboot the PC.
If it does'nt boot from the disk you will have to go in to the bios on the PC and change the boot priority setting so that the CDRom is the first boot device.
Then save the settings and reboot.
Then follow the on screen prompts to install a fresh copy of Windows. It will format the drive and you will lose everything but if you are not worried about that then give it a go. You may have to go online to find drivers for some of your hardware after it's finished.

You WONT have to replace the Hard Drive unless it wont accept a fresh install of Windows.

Hi,
you,ll have to replace the hard-drive with a new unit.
and remove the cmos battery from the motherboard for 10-15 seconds. This will reset the Bios to it,s default settings.
If you are unsure or unable to do this, mail me for further advice/help.

There are multiple types of "reset" for computers. If you are afraid you have a virus, you can start your computer under
safe mode." If you need to, you might need to completely wipe everything.

There is somethig seriously wrong with my PC. It was attacked by some computer viruses

Hi,

You can try to run a full virus scan in Safe Mode. To access it, you will either press F8, or Del (depends on what key was designed on your computer to access the Advanced Boot Options), after getting the Advanced Boot Options, select Safe Mode an press Enter key.

If your antivirus software cannot detect any virus, it was either not updated or was disabled by the virus. You need to contact your antivirus company to get help with manual virus deletion.

However, if you don't have any antivirus installed I suggest to just wipe everything off from the harddrive and start from factory settings.

Hope this helps.

On another computer download ccleaner portable edition and advanced system care portable edition and put them on a usb stick or sd card. Run ccleaner on your laptop to erase undesirable files, then run advanced system care which deeply cleans spyware, malware, registry issues, and security issues. Afterwards, reboot your laptop. Hope this helps!

I have multiple viruses and a person from the geek squad recommended me to reset the computer to its factory settings

Hello,

yes, that's right. Its highly recommended that you set your computer to factory default.

This will help to wipe away every virus on the computer, its the surest way.

But make sure you back up all important documents before you proceed. And install a good anti-virus after the reset.

I believe you should know how to carry out the reset, if you don't, let me know, by giving me the model and make of your laptop.

Good luck.

Master reset

If by master reset you mean wipe out everything and make it look like you just took it out of the box.

Simply put in the "Restoration CD" that came with the computer.
(If you still have the instruction booklet then instructions are in there I believe)
