Problem not in your monitor, but in your videocard, I've got the same. Your videocard overheats and your monitor shut down. You need to check cooler on your videocard. Maybe it full of dust. Sorry for my bad english) hope it helps to someone.

Monitor problem philips 170c 17" powers up shows pic for short time screen go's blank green light stays on can any 1 help thanks

it may be a problem with the playback of your monitor or just the pins at the back of the tube of your monitor. but first check your videocard. check the connections or uninstall the card, clean the contact points of your videocard and install it again.

My monitor is not allowing me to display a resolution

If you have the origional CD that came with the monitor, use that to re-install the drivers for the monitor back onto the pc. Then go to viewsonic and look for updates. Do a "system restore" and put the system back to the condition prior to doing all of this. I will re store your files to what they were but "system restore" will not roll back "windows updates". This will tell you if it is something you did or windows did.

WHEN does this problem occur? Does it ONLY happen after the computer loads Windows (or another OS), or does it happen as soon as you turn the monitor on? We really need more information before we can provide specific advice or suggestions... IF this happens as soon as you turn the monitor on, switch it with a different monitor. If the problem goes away, the original monitor is defective, and probably not worth the cost of repairing it. If the problem ONLY happens after you load Windows, boot the system into Safe Mode (press the F8 key during bootup until you see the menu which allows you to select Safe Mode), then reboot and see if the problem has been resolved; simply booting into Safe Mode, then rebooting the system into Windows MIGHT solve this WITHOUT requiring you to change any system settings... IF the problem remains in Windows AFTER you've booted into Safe Mode AND rebooted back to Windows, the videocard driver might be corrupted. In that case, you'll have to reinstall the vidcard driver to correct this problem... If all else fails, it IS possible that the videocard itself is defective; if installing an updated driver doesn't work, try swapping the videocard with a different one. BE SURE to uninstall the OLD videodriver, and install the proper one for the new videocard; if you don't install the correct driver, you could create MORE problems than you have right now...

It could be, either your monitor have gone bad. The videocard is faulty. Or worst scenario: the motherboards graphic port (AGP?, PCI E port?) have kicked the bucket. If you have the possibility? Try the monitor on another PC. The same goes for the videocard. If you have'nt got a friend, that is willing to let you test the monitor / videocard? Take them to a service station. I guess, they wont charge you that much for testing the stuff. Ps. also try to connect your monitor to the other connector on the videocard, using the "DVI adapter", that probably came with your videocard bundle. If you did'nt get any DVI adapter? They just cost a couple of bucks in a PC hardware store. goranpaa
