Aloha, I purchased a Simpletech 160GB about 4 months ago from Comp USA. They went out of business here in Honolulu, last month. It stopped working about a week ago. THe imput slot fell inside the unit and I had a hard time connecting it, but finally did. However now it does not work at all. I need it to backup my computer. You can open up the Simpletech enclosure and check that all the cables are connected inside. If the connector fell inside then it may just be too messed up. If that is the case, you can buy another USB enclosure and transfer the hard drive from the Simpletech unit to the new enclosure.

btw: posting your phone # on the internet is not really a good idea. If you can edit this posting I would suggest you remove it.

The only way that you can recover the info on your hard disk is by taking it to a pc repair center and get it fixed, if possible.

Switch ON the PC, boot the PC in 'Safe Mode' by continuously tapping F8 button after you switch On.

Let windows boot in Safe Mode and log in to windows.

Go to 'Start'--->Programs--->Accessories--->System Tools--->System Restore

Here you will have to check "Restore computer to an earlier time' and click Next
Now you will find one Month Calendar window with Dates below, go to the last month by clicking the '<' sign in the upper left hand corner of the Month Calendar and select any date that you see in Bold.

Click on Next and System Restore will start and windows will take a reboot.

After reboot your problem should be resolved.

Hi there,

This could go two ways, neither of them good.

The first possible thing could be that the monitor is on its last legs, and had been dying for those months. You can verify this by trying to hook it up to another PC if possible.

The other possible problem could be that your video card is going. Gateways aren't exactly the most reliable PC, and it could be that the video card has stopped for one or more different reasons.

There's also the chance of overheating, which you can check by feeling the tower/monitor, or downloading this program called SpeedFan which can tell you the temperature inside the PC, provided it came with sensors (some do some don't).

Dell 8400 , does not show having the CD or DVD players.


Either get a new Drive because it is spoilt or format the Com. Try the first option first.

My dimension 4600c wont always read discs


sounds as though you need a new CD drive, the optics in your drive are not working correctly.

CD drives are available for cheap at any computer store or consumer electronics store.

very easy to replace, 4 screws hold it in, and plug in the cables to the new drive from the old one. please dont forget to rate!

Stays in standby or sleep mode afer switch off


Problem solved. inside this computer there are a set of dip switches a block of 4 top middle of circuit board, 1 up 3down, what i did was to switch all switches to the the up posistion, and not having a clue what would happen.

Ureka the computer came on, if you switch of and switch on again comp becomes operative at once, depending how long you leave it off the longer it takes to come on.

Example if it is switched off say overnight it will take about 2.5 mins to come on, it seem that the comp is doing some sought of self checking. I could play around with those dip switches but as it is now working and i understand what is happening (I think) i will leave well alone.

If no power at all, replace power supply.

My belkin router stopped working after electricity was turned off-when re-connected it stop working--it is only 9 months old--virgin can-not help-is there a solution please. computer new in last yea it is...


You can try to reset the router for by pressing the reset button of it using a pen for about 15 seconds while the router is power on then power it off after the reset then power it back on, then if you still have the setup CD run it to configure the router again. Broken Power Supply


hello!

I guess that the computer have a one year warranty, You can claim a warranty anytime you want. But if has no warranty at all then you can repair the PSU by your own, Open the PSU and find any busted parts or maybe the fuse blownout that is very cheap you can replace that by your own. If afraid to do so, then let the repairman do it for you.
If no hastle it is recommended to by new PSU for your system.

Computer won't load anything


Possible RAM problem, also failing electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and/or motherboard can cause these problems.

Look for swollen/bulging/leaking electrolytic capacitors.

It might help if you mention make/model of the computer and the operating system you are using.
