Question about Canon Elura 65 Mini DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Camera not detected by XP

Hi Gurus...

I have a canon elura 65. When I try to connect it to my laptop using 1394 firewire my pinnacle studio or windows movie maker or any other software does not detect my camera. I tried connecting using USB (instead of firewire on my laptop, but I get a message that the device is not recognised. I have already installed the USB drivers provided by the manufacturer, but that did not help. Please help. More details are in my post below...

Thanks,
Pranay

Same story here; it's as if the firewire port is not enabled or something. I have another Canon camera (GL1) and it is recognized by XP, but not this Elura 65.

I even took it apart to see if they forgot to connect the ribbon cable or something! No such luck; everything looks good inside but still no DV out.

There is a button which is supposed to initiate contact with the computer but the button does not light up and nothing happens when I push it and the computer does not recognize the camera. I am also looking for a place to download the driver or other software that will let the computer know that the camera is attached. i don't have the original disk and have tried to download several drivers with no luck.

There is a Sony tutorial page for downloading video to computer at THIS LINK

You will need to select Windows as the operating system, then your camera type, then select the type of connection. You are strongly recommended to use i.Link (which everyone else calls Firewire).

There is Sony software called Picture Motion Browser that you can download (you will need the number from your original CD).

If none of that helps, perhaps the driver for the Firewire (IEEE 1394) port on the computer needs to be reinstalled. You can view this driver (if it is installed) by opening the control panel\system\hardware\device manager and looking for IEEE 1394. It should say if there is a problem or if it is working. You can force it to reinstall at this point.

INEED TO DOWNLOAD SOFTWARE TO CONNECT CAMCORDER TO MY PC TO CONVERT VEDIO TAPE RECORDED

To transfer video from this camcorder to a PC, you need a 1394 cable (also called a "Firewire" cable, and your PC must have a 1394/Firewire connector as well. You can use Movie Maker (which comes with Windows) as the capture software, or you can download Scenalyzer (shareware), Studio (from Pinnacle), or Vegas Movie Studio to do the capture.

Does moviebox usb work with studio 14 and vista? I can't get my camera to show as an import device when connected to the movie box.

This is the latest hardware device that can used for Studio 14.

Check the list.

USB based
  • 710-USB
  • 510-USB
  • 700-USB
  • 500-USB
  • MovieBox Deluxe
  • DVC-103
  • DVC-107
  • DVC-100
  • DVC-90
  • DVC-130 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
  • DVC-170 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
PCI based
  • 700-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle Studio Deluxe 2)
  • 500-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle AV/DV)
  • Any 1394 cards.

Are you using vista 32 or 64 bit system? If Vista 64 bit there is no driver for your device and the only available is 32 bit only. Aside from that you can check also the video cable you were trying to used. If firewire under import/capture tab of Studio 14 you need to select the name of your camcorder or dv camcorder. Check that out and try.

Camera not recognized anymore, with my editing software

What exactly do you mean doesnt recognize? Is windows not detecting the camera, or is it just pinnacle?
Solutions:
1: Check your camera, some have options that need to be enabled to be able to be detected by a pc, like a "PC mode".
2: Check your firewire cable. Try replacing it with another one.
3: Is your firewire connecting to your mainboard directly or do you have a seperate firewire card? If its a seperate card, try checking its connection to the mainboard.

I hope this helps,
Yannick

PV GS39 Win XP Movie Maker

I don't know if Windows XP Movie Maker can detect a firewire based video camera.

Do you have DVD burning software such as Nero in your computer? That has capture capability to it.

Pinnacle Studio will detect a firewire camera. It is reasonably priced and easy to use. In fact you can control your camcorder from Studio in case you need to rewind or fast forward the tape.

Hello,
You can use RCA's coming out of the cam to a device like Dazzle which goes from your PC's USB port to RCAs. Works great. Hope this helps.

Unable to Capture Video

i think you need to adjust the settings of the firewire capabilities..try adjusting things in the camera, then in control panel, then finally in the programs themselves.
