Question about Digital Cameras

I broke the tang off (on and off switch) and would like to replace it myself instead of sending it back and forth for repair. Does anyone know how to get to the switch? I have to turn it on now with toothpick hahhaha tacky in public; coffeyw@sbcglobal.net

This is really difficult to do and you could end up damaging the camera totally the problem is their are no instructions anywhere telling you how to do this and even if you take the camera into repair shop they will tell you they dont do this sort of repair if you are going to do it yourself then buy a second hand damaged camera that you can take apart yourself and then you will know how to take yours apart.
They dont repair these and from my experiance they are really difficult to take apart and repair its not worth destroying your camera as taking apart involves thin ribbons that carry the info to the lcd screen so be warned i wouldnt advise you to do this but ask other experts if you like.
Sorry i couldnt off anymore help but ive looked everywhere for instructions on taking these apart and their just arent any anywhere none that i can find anyway

Unless the camera costs more than $1000 then the chances of finding a repair manual are pretty slim but if you want me to look do as maklean says and give make and model maybe he knows of sites that can give you this info if he gets stuck and cant find any info for you then give me a shout back and ill look again for you.

Hi its not worth paying that much for repair the vest thing to do is buy a damaged one off ebay then dismantle the camera so you know how to put ti back to gether take out the part you need and refit.
I have repaired camera's before and they are not that easy to do expecially if the ribbon comes out of its socket on the lcd screen so be warned best to buy damaged camera then it will be worth repairing

HELP! How do i replace the main selector button on the back of my Nikon d200? The large button that toggles picture review? My broke and I need to replace it. Thanks! Patti

Patti, replacing switches requires the outer case to be dismantled and a job for a service person. I don't know where you are in this world but the D200 is still a good camera and well worth the dollars to repair it. If it were one of mine I would send it back to Nikon or a Nikon authorized repair center.
Probably not the answer you wanted but working on these cameras isn't like changing a light bulb.

Broken screen :(

This is NOT a warranty claim. You broke it by misuse and therefore it will not be replaced under a warranty. Warranties deal with manufacturers faults. To repair this is expensive and I would suggest biting the bullet and buying a new one is cheaper and easier to do. In future carry your camera in a bag not your pocket as it will be too easily damaged

Sony a100 broken screen

That's not too bad of a problem to live with if you don't end up fixing it. You probably know this already but what you see through the viewfinder is exactly what shows up on the lcd screen after you take a picture.
Have you:

*Tested the camera to see if any of the options and/or buttons work?
*Taken any pictures with it and uploaded them to your computer?

Do you have a user's manual that can help you navigate through the options? If not, feel free to send me a message.

As far as repairing the screen, familiarize yourself with other Sony screens if you can't find anything on the A100. Check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UR8mqXd4Jrw

Good luck!

Canon PowerShot S410 - Mode Switch Problem

Your problem is fairly common. However, fixing it will require someone to actually open the camera case and clean the rotating switch (mode dial). Also, I've never personally opened an S410, but it should be similar to what's posted on the following blog using an A460's mode dial as an example. Keep in mind that there is some risk that you may actually make things worse. So remember to weigh the options before going in there. The responsibility of how things went is ultimately yours:

If you decide to conduct the repair yourself, please leave a follow up comment, either here or on the blog on how things went. Good Luck!

Stuck in camera mode, little switch fell off.

Has anyone tried a hard reset on their camera by removing the main power batteries for 60 seconds and the reinserting them as if it were the first time power up. This may not fix your particular problem, but when the processor that runs all of the electronic features of the camera gets confused, this is the best way to clear its confusion.
page number 114 of your manual. tell me if this works
