Question about Casio EXILIM Card EX-S770 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Won't turn on, and heats up quickly when battery is put in.

Camera was fine. The odd problem of not turning on, but usually rectified by removing and reinserting battery. However, today, was working normally, put it into cradle to recharge, and now it won't turn on, so removed the battery, reinserted it, but still won't turn on and it heats up very very quickly when I put the battery in - noticeable immediately, and becomes too hot to handle in about 2 minutes. Have removed the battery (as am afraid of fire!), and am camera-less. Any ideas?????

You need to contact the repairs dept and tell them whats going on. DO NOT LET THEM TRANSFER YOU TO TECH SUPPORT! THey like to do that. Tell them you want someone from there in the corporate office to contact you.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

it would appear the battery is "weak" and needs to be replaced. although testing it with a battery tester may show it is fine. when you turn on the camera you are putting the battery under a load and the voltage may drop too low. quick test would be to test the battery voltage after you take it out of the charger and then again after you have used it to power on the camera. ebay would likely be your most inexpensive source for a replacement battery.
as a side note i suggest you go to the canon website to find out if there is a recall on that particular battery. i realize this is about camera's but my garmin gps battery was recalled (and the gps was about 4 years old) and it was replaced for free.

When I put knew batteries in my camera they die instantly. How do I rectify this problem?

The only thing that will deplete batteries that fast is that they are being shorted out. Anything odd in the battery compartment? Batteries inserted correctly? You may need service.

My camera turns on then quickly turns off.

This is usually a low/bad battery problem. Remove the batteries from your camera and make sure the battery and camera contacts are clean. If using alkaline batteries, try a fresh set. If using rechargeable batteries, recharge them for several hours. If a recharge doesn't work, you may need a new battery set. eBay is a good source for reasonably priced replacement batteries.

Canon EOS Rebel problem

This is usually caused by a defective shutter release switch - it'll have to go into a repair shop - independent shops will charge about $110 USD - Canon charges about $180
