Re: ROVER 25 WARNING LIGHTS
That's a generic light telling you something is being picked up by the computer. It's called the "check engine" light. You'll need to take it to a repair shop where they can plug into the on-board computer and determine what the problem is. It's usually just a sensor or something like that. Don't let it go too long because if the problem gets too bad, it could shut down your engine and not let you start it... then you'll need a tow truck.

Are you talking about the orange lamp to the right of the brake light in the upper left of the cluster? If so, that is the Malfunction indicator light (Check Engine light for those in the States) or at least it is on mine. Have someone scan it to retrieve and clear the error codes. Google the retrieved codes and you'll find a myriad of hits containing troubleshooting advice. Or post them here and we'll try to get you pointed in the right direction.
This is a MIL light and has prob come on because a sensor has become clogged or faulty. Your car will use more fuel when this light is on.
Try disconnecting the battery for 20min to reset ecu. Make sure you have the stereo code!
If this fails to reset the light or the light comes back on you must go to your local garage who should have a diagnostic scanner that can be plugged into you car to find out what the fault is.
If the check engine light(orange) when dash lights up then it is a mechanical problem. If the orange check engine doesn't light up then the security system is in alarm mode. Must have a tool to synchronize engine computer with BeCM. Very common problem
Have you checked your fuses? This is the first place I look when probs with dash/lights come up. Daddy taught me well. Another excellent source of troubleshooting and repair is a Chiltons/Haynes repair manual for your make/model/year vehicle.
A circle with lines around it - depends where it is -
If its a top left light, then it should be a circle with an exclamation mark in the middle, and two lines running part way round the outside (1 to 5pm and 7 - 11pm). Thats the handbrake and brake fluid light which comes on for about 3 seconds when you start the engine ... if it comes on at any other time - seek help.
If its top centre, and has ABS in the middle, then its the anti lock braking light. Similar to above, lights up for a few seconds at start.
Muffler with lines coming off it - are they pointing outwards from the circle, (with a thermometer in the middle = transmission oil temperature guage), or are they on the left and all parallel (which would be main beam indicator, which lights up blue when on)
This warning light indicates a problem with the rear lights (Brake lights, Reverse lights, Number plate light)... Normally it is set off by a bulb that needs to be replaced but it has been documented that using incorrect Watt rated bulbs can also trigger the warning light. It has also been noticed that faulty wiring may trigger the it too.
