Press button dryer clicks but doesn't start

The dryer was working it dried a load of clothes. My husband smelled an electrical burning smell (the dryer was off.) When I reset the timer the dryer clicks like it's trying to start but the machine doesn't start. Thanks in advance for any advice, andrea.chiovari@srz.com

No, it's been a few days. I was wondering if (a) the motor probably burnt out - the machine is 9 years old and if so (b) if it is something I can repair myself (no electrical/mechanical knowledge.)

  • Andrea0516 Mar 12, 2008

Do you think it is the motor or R2, C2, C25, DZ1-DZ7 (I don't know what those are) or is this something I need to call in the repair man on?

There may be a number of things to be check before concluding that the motor is burnt.

A continuity test should be done on the motor, just to make sure the motor is good. Even if the motor is tested good, you will need to see if it rotates freely and properly.

The LINK outlines all the testing need to know where the problem is.

If you feel confident that you can do it. I would suggest to take a lot of time to read and understand what you will be doing.

Calling a technician is really up to you base on the amount of electrical testing that is needed to perform this task.

The mechanical aspect of the machine, you can check it yourself, by inspecting for a broken belt, jammed motor or burnt components on the control board. The rest is all electrical testing.

    Good Luck.

the motor would try to start every time and it wil not..

it must have stopped due to over running of motor

just leave it for few hours and try it again

The burnt parts on the control board are all in the DC power

    supply circuit.

I believe the board can be repaired with

    just a few components (R2, C2, C25, DZ1-DZ7).

burning smell is because the drum is not rolling and the motor is trying to turn, hopefully it did not damage the motor: more then likely it the drum rollers/glides, might want to check the idler arm here is a website that will help. depending on fast you need your dryer a good and cheap place to buy parts is on eBay, of course they can be purchased locally, Good Luck Tim:

LG TROMM DRYER DLE5977 Burning Smell

It is a POS dryer, we have the same one. My suggestion get another dryer. We vacuumed it all out (don't you have a problem with the lint catcher?) Then it started loud pounding noise, which a lot of people seem to have the same problem, then our sensor went out and we had to dry the clothes 5-10 x's...now crack in stainless steel drum and is chewing up all our expensive clothes!
