This is a document feeder issue. Xerox tech had me power down, remove document feeder cable, then reattached cable and be sure it was tight. I powered back up, message stil there, so I opened the little hatch on top by the upper document feeder, and BAM! fixed!

The Xerox c2424 Document Scanner has a very high rate of failure. After very limited use it can generate an error code of 39,012.40 indicating that the document feeder is damaged. Xerox's answer to 99% of the document scanner issues is to replace the
unit. But while restarting or cleaning can possibly resolve this issue, it is also possible to just disconnect the scanner and use it independently of the document feeder.
Xerox documentation however, does not instruct the user how to do this and tech support won't walk you though it. (So, courtesy of Pastor Ray of Indiana) Listed here are the steps to operating the scanner without the document feeder:
(1) Perform a standard shutdown on the printer.
(2) Disconnect the Document Feeder from the printer IN THE REAR OF
THE PRINTER. You still need the side connector hooked up, the one
by the power-on switch, power plug, USB port and all the other goodies.
(3) Power up the printer.
(4) It should work. However...
If for some reason the printer won't copy, then just do what I did in my
(1) Perform a standard shutdown on the printer.
(2) Disconnect the Document Feeder from the printer in the rear of the
(3) Physically remove the Document Feeder, leaving the copy platen
(4) Power up the printer.
At this point you should be able to copy stuff.
(5) Physically reattach the Document Feeder, but DON'T reconnect it!
You should still be able to copy, scan, etc.
Change the toner cartridge , i have many units phaser3200 and this is one of
the problem , but only if the toner cartridge is very old and many time
refilled , if not , change the Laser unit .
Remove a misfed document if the copier displays a message
reading "Document Jam." Lift up the document feeder cover and turn the
roller to remove an Exit Misfed document. Lower the document feeder back
into place and feed the document through again. If the document is
jammed on the Input side, open the cover and gently pull the misfed
document to the right and out of the feeder.
Pull out the paper tray and lift the tray to release it from
the copier if the copier displays a message reading "Paper Jam O."
Remove the jammed document, and open and close the side panel of the
copier to clear the error message.
Unplug the power cord and plug it back in again if the copier
displays a message reading "Fuser Error, Open Heat Error, Heating Error
and Overheat." If the problem persists, call for a service.
Remove the toner cartridge and shake it from side to side if
the copier displays a message reading "No Developer Cartridge." If this
does not do the trick, you may need to replace the cartridge. Pull the
release latch to open the side cover, and open the front cover. Twist
the cartridge locking-lever upwards and remove the toner cartridge.
Insert the new cartridge and lock the lever into place. Shut the front
cover and the side cover.
Power off the unit and power it on again if the copier
displays a message reading "LSU Error." A problem has occurred with the
Laser Scanning Unit. If the problem persists, call for a service.
Sorry bout that ques. I had to ask, a machine will come to ready, but "not ready to copy" because of paper issues. Area there any other indicators, door open, low/no toner, jamzzzzz? Also if you have a doc feeder or ANY other device attached to the machine, including FAX lines, cat5 (network) cables, power the machine down and disconnect EVERYTHING. then power up and post the results here.
That code it related to the document feeder or scanner.
What I would try is turn off the machine, then disconnect all the connectors from the scanner and document feeder, and espicialy the molex connector next to the power cord near the on off switch, that cable tends to work loose and is odd to tighten as it. Make sure you tighten that one well.
If it is scanner or document feeder related, there are almost no parts spared for those, the assemblies need to be replaced.
There is better then a 50 % chance the cables will fix the problem.
Could be a dirty scanner. Not much to check, it is a lamp issue.
You can try disconnecting the cables to the document feeder and scanner. The one on the right side of the machine, where the power cord, thats is odd to access and tighten often works loose.
