Got it! O.K.

Unplug the dryer. Remove the two screws (Phillips) holding the door hinge to the frame. Remove the other two holding the guides on theother side. Pull the top of the front out and lift it off the clips on the bottom. Remove the brackets (5/16 in screws) (right and left) holding the top down. Notice the direction that those brackets hook into the top.
Lift the top at least a few inches and disconnect any wires you see (light and door switch.) Remember the colors of the wires, and where they go. (The connectors are also different sizes.)

Remove the four 5/16 in screws holding the ring around the basket in place. Remove the ring (with blower suction chamber) and set aside. The blower wheel will now be visible. The blower wheel is held on with a spring clip (pliers) and a snap ring (snap ring pliers). The motor shaft is D- shaped as the blower wheel also was, originally.

If you need to replace the blower wheel, the cover is held on with about eight 1/4 in screws and and one 5/16 in ***** at the bottom. Just fold the wires to the right to get that metal cover out of the way.

While you've got it apart, be sure to clean out the lint in the blower suction area.

Good luck!

Heating element on a maytag

The most common problems with a gas dryer can be Blown fuse on blower housing clog lint causing excessive heat, open flame sensor, open ignitor, faulty solenoids that sometimes work once then quit then work again after a long cool down. The blower wheel is plastic. They wobble out over time and cause a drop in airflow resulting in very poor performance. That is about all the smart pills I know. Here is how it works and how to replace them pesky coils a home movie from me.

I have a Maytag dryer (Gas) Model # MDG8506AWW. I changed the ignitor and also the coils on the gas valve, same problem. Ignitor turns on, heats up, gas valve opens burner turns on and then shuts off...

Hello,

Is their rumbling noise at start up (or was thier in the past) if so the blower wheel itn't turning and its causing the flame to sufficate due to very poor or no air flow , to check if blower wheel is problem remove vent from back of dryer and check for air that should be equal to if not better than that of a box fan you would use in your living room,if good air flow at back of dryer check for blocked or restricted vent,Again very poor air flow will sufficate the flame very quickly

If this helps please give me 4 thumbs up :)

Rumbling noise in maytag gas dryer DG110 series 01

Unplug Dryer first: Page 3-11 of full service manual at link below will get front off. The most common solution for your problem is the blower wheel loose on the shaft. Hold drum and see if you can turn blower wheel (lower left plastic squirrel cage) separately. If you can turn the plastic wheel while you hold drum still, replace blower wheel.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

Check the drive belt and belt tensioner. From the way you describe it, the belt is loose and with a load in the drum, it will not rotate due to belt slipping.

Maytag dryer won't rotate after blower wheel replacement

The dryer belt may have broken or come off its pulleys. Pop open top of dryer or rear vent door to look inside to see if this is your problem. Let me know if I can help, Thanks Sea Breeze

The blower wheel draws air into the machine past the burner, up through a channel in the back, into the basket, out through the lint screen to the blower wheel and then out the back of the machine. If it is clogged somewhere, the flame will stay in the burner chamber until it activates a high temperature thermostat.
By the way, when you have the machine taken apart, this will disrupt the normal air flow. You must have the basket and front ring in and the door in place if you want to test it with the front panel removed.

Unless the motor is turning backwards, it will draw the flame toward the back. And I've never seen a motor turn the wrong way. They're made to turn one direction only - even if you hook them up 'backwards.' Was the motor changed recently? Could you have the wrong part in there?

Now I'm curious. Be sure to comment back on what you find, will you?

need to question why you think its not a venting issue, did you try without vent attached???, cuase it definitly sounds like an air flow issue. if doing that diconnected i would look into possible the blower wheel housing is not sealing correctly and your suckin the air towards it(highly unlikely) cant see the wheel coming off . gotta say air flow issue!!!

Maytag dryer...ignites, flame goes up and toward front of dryer. my guess is it is turning off as a safty feature. Vent off(not a venting problem) Why is it ?backdrafting?

sounds like you could have a major clog in the blower wheel. Or the wheel could be loose on the motor shaft.

The procedure to reach the blower wheel depends on the model. I can walk you through it if you post the model number. (nameplate inside door, or on the top back left behind the console.)
