Question about Gigabyte GA-8IE Motherboard

Can't upgrade from 400 fsb to 533 fsb CPU

This is now my 2nd failed attempt at replacing my 2.0Ghz 400 fsb CPU with a 2.66 533 fsb CPU on my Gigabyte GA-8IE mobo. Not only do the specs claim it supports 533, but the CPUs I've chosen comply with Gigabyte's compatibility chart. When the PC boots, the HDD light comes on and it freezes; no memory count, no BIOS screen, no beeps. Memory is PC2100, video is AGP, onboard sound is disabled, BIOS settings are set to auto.

Sorry, should've posted that initially. I've been running F7 (latest) for a couple of years now.

Have exactly the same experience trying to upgrade Gigabyte GA-8IE cpu from 2.0/400 to 2.66/533. Freezes during BIOS, or during Boot or boots fine then freezes unpredictably probably within the first few minutes.

    Any thought, anybody?

Upgrading Processor & Graphics card

The Intel® 845G chipset is optimized for the Intel® Pentium® 4 processor supporting Hyper-Threading (HT) Technology†. It is designed with the high performance 533/400 MHz system bus and integrated high-speed USB 2.0.

Max Cpu
Pentium 4 2.8ghz with a 400mhz FSB and
Pentium 4 2.63ghz with a 533mhz fsb

pay close attention when getting your cpu if it has a 533 front side bus and is faster than 2.63 then the actual cpu speed will end up slower (you will see something like 2.1ghz) if it comes on due to multiplier limitations
