If I am on a call from my LG Viewty KU990 to say a call centre and need to input some info - say password letters - I only see numbers when I choose the keypad option. I can't remember which letters belong to which numbers off by heart. Is there a setting I can change so that I can see both numbers and letters the way you can when you manually enter a phone number?

This is almost certainly a problem with your phone not having the correct Message Centre settings (have you ever used this phone with a different carrier?).
The Message Centre number can be found in Messaging/Settings/Text Message/Text Message Centre. You will probably need to check with your Service Provider to get the correct number, although you may find it on their website.
it's under sms.
create new message > message > "options" icon (bottomest left)
> writing Language > (choose your language). mine has english, malay, indonesian, thai, korean & simple/trad chinese.
(Sorry, no japanese. maybe northeast asian market has.)
you can then set input preference, either under "options" icon > input method, or click on the top right rectangular box in the texting
Use the viewty pc suite. If you can only see E mail in the message viewer you need to look for the conninfo.ini file and rename the phone to U990 from KU990 and then it will let you see the text messages
