So the way i see it you want to replace the memory slot that is under the keyboard (not the extra slot that is located on the back of the laptop). Best way of doing this would be following Dell's Documentation:

Go here my friend:
http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/latd620/en/SM/memory.htm - the one for DIMM A

Basically 3 Major Steps:
1) You have to remove the Hinger cover (they also provide an extra link in how to remove it)
2) Remove the keyboard (once again they provide a nice guide in how to remove the keyboard)
3) Remove the actual Memory

Personally i have done a memory upgrade before WITHOUT having to remove the keyboard, but if you want to experiment removing the keyboard make sure not to loose the screws, and also when removing the connection between the keyboard and the motherboard you should see a 'blue stick' you have to pull this stick up if you want to remove the keyboard, what i usually do is that i move the right 'wall' of the blue stick so that i can pull the stick up. (a tenuous process)

Cache test failure

One of your devices has failed could be the memory or a device that is externally plugged in if you have any remove them. If you have never worked with laptops before this is the time to take it in for repair or find someone that knows how to fix them. John

Screen not on and alrm sound

Is it a constant alarm? If so you might have a memory problem.

Remove the Power Cord, Remove the screw and the cover that houses the memory and remove one of thememory chips. Set the chip aside then try rebooting the computer. If it boots, then you know the memory chip you set aside is bad so mark an x onit with an ink pen. If it fails to boot then move the chip to the nextmemory slot and try rebooting. If it fails take the chip out and set itaside, then put the other chip in and try booting it in both slots. If itboots, just to verify that the chip set aside is bad, mark an x on it and putit into the open memory chip slot and try booting. If it is like a 3 alarm or beeps interval, then you might have a video card problem.

You can download the device drivers from Dell WEB site, the support download page. Make sure you select your model desktop or laptop, better still, type in the Service Tag number, it is printed on the label on thebottom of the laptop and on the back or sides of a desktop. (If the Service Taglabel is missing then go into the BIOS setting and on one of the BIOS pages, the Service Tag number will be displayed). This will open the page where thespecific drivers for your model computer are located. Also make sure you selectthe Windows of the drivers for your Windows operating system. Dell d820 wont turn on power light comes on then goes off

this error could be due to defective memory,,if you have an extra memory chip, try to remove the old one and replace it with your extra memory chip, but make sure this memory is 100% working.

How to install memory on ecs G550 laptop can only see one slot with 512 MB ddr sodmmm where is the other slots to upgrade to 1GB ram

There are two memory slots which support PC2700/333 Mhz memory, maximum 1024 per slot.

ECS suggests using identical/matched pairs of chips from the same manufacturer for their units.

In most laptops there is an access panel which when removed gives you direct access to the memory chips for replacement. I couldn't find a mainboard diagram for this unit so I am unable to see if the memory slots are adjacent on the board but there is little reason they shouldn't be. You should be able to access both slots once the proper access panel is opened.

This is the website page for direct contact with ECS tech support if you have any further questions: http://www.ecsusa.com/ECSWebSite/Support/TSSRequest.aspx?CategoryID=3&MenuID=19&LanID=0

Take out the memory and replace with the old one.
If you have a 32 bit Windows and have more that 4GB RAM then you need to upgrade to 64 BIT.
This is the RAM you need:
Standard Memory : 256MB (Removable) Maximum Memory : 2GB Total Memory Slots : 2 Memory Type : DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM Notes :

SYSTEM DOESN'T RECOGNIZE NEW MEMORY MODULE

Memory modules must be the correct type and speed, and be within the specifications for the laptop. Just because it fits in the slot doesn't mean it will work.

The Dell inspiron B130 has 2 slots. Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 1GB per slot. if you tried to insert a 2GB module, it will not work.

If the module is within these parameters, remove and re-seat the memory, and try swapping the modules from one slot to the other. It may be a bad slot.

Dell Inspiron 1100 does not see new memory

Install one memory first to any of the memory slots and boot your laptop... then do the same on the other slot with the same memory.

Now do the same step to the other memory...

That is to see if any of the two memory has a problem or to see which memory slot has a problem... You should find a problem in there... that would be memory or the memory slot.
