Question about ASUS EAX1950PRO/HTDP RADEON X1950 Pro, (256 MB) PCI Express Graphic Card

1 Answer

Screen shut down

Hi, i installed a asus EAX1950PRO 256mg on a M2N MX SE mb and when i'm playing games(COD4), the screen shut down and i have to reboot. I updated the card driver to the latest version and also flash the bios to the latest version and it didn't change anything. I also set the GPU fan to it's maximum and monitered the GPU temp while playing but when the temp reaches 72 celcius, it's happening again. As everyone thinks it's a driver problem or a too hot GPU, it does'nt seem to be my case. Even 3Dmark06 is not working. Must i change my card?

AMD 5200
PSU 550w
2 gig ram

Thanks for answers

It seems like you have either a thermal problem (processor cooler defective, undersized or incorrectly mounted) or a defective power supply. I'm about 90% sure that the problem is thermal.

I have an Asus X50RL series laptop, The graphics card on it sucks for playing new games, i was just wondering if anyone know if the graphics can be updated and if so how?

it can be updated it is having an ATI graphics card with a 128 MB inbuilt memory so u just need to go
ati.amd.com/drivers.html and from there either automatically allow the website to get drivers for you or select from the list of available cards sensibily..

Troubleshooting Asus eax1950pro graphics card

I would try removing the driver, then shut the PC off remove the graphics card and then reset it back into the board. I would then boot up the PC and reload your graphic drivers. Some thing else you might want to consider is updating your BIOS file on the motherboard to the latest version. An out of date BIOS can lack support for features you might need.

I hope this helps,

Thanks for using FixYa,

Slowing down suddenly when gaming

Hi rajiv2612.
Suggest you check for any software update's from GeForce for you're 8600 GT. Also check for any software patches for the game (s). (Include windows update service as well).
The normal stuff like running windows system defrag & disk cleanup utilities should be run once a month for gamers.
Lastly, if you feel heat may be an issue. Open the PC case & leave opened while playing the game that seems to slow down the most. If the game does not slow down (After checking & updating all of the above), than maybe you need to add a 3" fan to the case, so fresh air blows directly onto the 8600 GT.

Good Luck!

Not really a solution but just thought i would point out that the 5200 card is pretty old by todays standards and will only be good for playing games from a while ago. What games are you hoping to play?

I have three suggestion. Since your currently using your old video card now I'd like you to update windows. You need to have at least .Net framework 2.0 installed in your PC. Do not skip installtion of earler version of .Net framework like 1.0, 1.1.
If you haven't updated in a while this may take some time.
Download & install DirectX 9.c at this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2da43d38-db71-4c1b-bc6a-9b6652cd92a3&displaylang=en
Download your latest drivers from PowerColor here: http://www.powercolor.com/eng/support_driver.asp?CategoryID=1&SeriesID=2&ModelID=7
Restart the PC. After windows finishes loading remove your older video software from Control Panel -Add/Remove. Shut down PC, unplug power cord. Remove older video card, clean slot with a blast of canned air or clean paint brush. Install newer card. Make sure it is seated correctly. Re-connect Pc & boot to windows. Install downloaded drivers. If your card continues to wig-out after 10-45 min, it might be over heating. Make sure you have plenty of fresh air to enter the case.
