Question about Sony KV-27XBR45 27" TV

1 Answer

SONY KV-27XBR45 stays in stand by mode, trying to go on but fails

I was watching TV yesterday when I left the room for a moment. I came back and the picture was one horizontal flat line in the middle of the screen, with the sound working fine. I changed the channel and the same thing occurred. I turned it off and then back on. The TV seemed to convulse, staying in stand-by mode trying to ignite but, alas, no picture. I unplugged it and put it out of its misery. I waited a half hour and tried again, to the same result. Any ideas? I would love to keep the best TV I have ever had.

SONY KV-27XBR45 slighly out of focus

If you open up the back and locate hte fluback transformer (part with large red wire coming out of the top), you should see two controls on that tramsformer. One is the screen control which will control the overall brightness of the picture and the other (bottom I think) is a focus control. It may be marked on the transformer itself as well. Turn that control slightly while watching the set. This should resolve the problem.

Most likely the flyback assembly, and or the horizontal output transistor failed. There is also a possiblity of some other faults that are putting the power supply in to the protect mode.

If there is a scan failure, it is possible that there is also some damage in the power supply.

The set will have to be serviced by a TV service tech.

Yes, the set is fixable. This is very common on the Sony sets, but the set should be serviced by a qualified tech familiar with Sony sets.

PIP for Sony KV-27XBR45 television trouble shooting

If you have the original remote for this TV on the pip menu (left side slider on remote all the way up) there is a pip off button. If you unplug the unit long enough it should go back to normal. If you go into demo mode and then exit mode you will again be out of the pip. With out the original remote you cannot easily turn pip off.
