Question about Actiontec GT704WG Wireless Router (gs583ad3-01)

Failure to Connect

I have had my Actiontec GT704WG wireless router for two and a halft years. It was furnished to me by Verizon. Recently, I have had trouble connecting to the internet. Sometimes, I have to turn the router off and back on several times before it connects. Right now I am connected but the light is red rather than green, a false indication that I am not connected. Also, sometimes when I am connected, the router disconnects on its own. This is getting very frustrating.
Verizon tells me that the problem may be my splitter and that I should replace it. I am not sure if the problem lies with the splitter, the router, or Verizon itself and hate to invest money until I am sure what the solution is.

Yeah! I am getting dropped connections with this router.

I connect ok, but the router will drop connections randomly.

I have had verizon broadband for about 6 days and it has never worked for

long. I have tried changing to channel 11, but that did not solve the problem. Am getting a replacement router today.

Lights on your router are indicators if the router is working properly or not. These lights are being controlled the the FIRMWARE of the router. If your router is no longer operating normally, you can do a FIRMWARE UPGRADE on your router. Firmware upgrade is a solution but sometimes harmful(it could kill your router). Make sure that Verizon already exhausted all possible solutions to your problem.
If a Firmware upgrade do not solve youe problem, getting a new router is the next solution. If the new router do not fix the problem, YOU HAVE TO LOOK FOR ANOTHER INTERNET PROVIDER.

Good Day

Actiontec GT704WGB from Verizon is working through Earthlink yet Verizon still thinks it is providing service and want to set up my "account"

Sounds like you have Verizon software on your computer. The router has nothing to do with that. Go into control panel > add remove programs and remove the Verizon software.

I have an actiontec gt704wg wireless router (from my previous Verizon DSL service)...I now have a Netgear CGD24G wireless router with Brighthouse roadrunner service...I want to connect my actiontec router...

unfortunately, no. You would be better off Ebaying the actiontec and getting a dedicated router- the reason is that the only uplink on the actiontec is the dsl port- not ethernet. Theoretically you could mod the firmware to make the wireless an access point only- but it would still have the achilles heel of needing an uplink.

Hi I want to know on how to setup the verizon Modem/Router I already have a Westell 6100G and i want to upgrade to the new one called Verizon Wireless modem/router model:GT704WG.

Are you on Consumer Verizon DSL? Fair warning if you are using Business Static- the Actiontec is a poor choice due to issues working on a static IP circuit. - I'd use a 6110 and a third party router! However, by default, the only thing you would need to do to setup the modem is go through the activation page when you plug the modem in. If you require an user name and password, it would set that up. Bar any problems, you can contact Verizon technical support since the Actiontec Gateway is fully supported.

ActionTec GT704WG - can it be "unlocked" ?

hi,

you can try to reset the router itself, there is a little button at the back of it where you can insert a pin or a pencil, make sure that the router is on then press and hold the reset button for one minute then turn it off, then connect it to you ATT and access the firmware,if its still the same, theres no way for you to use it since thats the only way that you can do...

thanks and God Bless

Nonexistant customer service by Actiontec

After my second call to Actiontec ended with the help desh hanging up on me, Actiontec did respond to an emailed plea for help and prompty provided a complex script which they labeled confidential to address this problem. The bottom line seems to be Verizon either installed hardware that is incompatable with an Exchange server or they did not configure the insallation correctly. In so many words, Actiontec feels it is a Verizon problem. I wish me luck in getting to the right place to deal with that, even though I am a Verizon stockholder.

Wireless router on but not working

Who is your ISP? I belive what you have is a modem router. If the interney light is not lit then it only mean that the actiontec is bridged and you need to use a dialer on your pc to connect to your ISP. If the internet light is lit, no need for a dialer just connect it straight to your pc and check your internet.
