Try using another ac adapter, sounds like the adapter is failing. You can either ask if one of your friends has the adapter with the same connector and voltage (check that the wattage of the adapter is sufficient) or if someone has a universal ac/dc adapter for the test. If the laptop starts normally wiht another adapter, then get a replacement adapter and you are good to go.

Hi Nicole. It's better to just have the cable repaired. Take the adapter to the nearest TV repair shop or computer repair shop and ask them to replace the jack. This shouldn't be expensive, about $10, depending on where you live. Adapters go from $30 to 50, so it's not worth the investment especially if your adapter is working just fine.

If this was helpful and informative please vote with a Thumb Up. Thank you.

When I try to load the drivers my computer goes to remove rather that install (do you want to continue to remove. . .)Any ideas?

Hello,

The first thing that I would advise you to do is,

Uninstall the WiFi Adapter totally from the System first,

Then go to "scan for hardware changes",

This will bring up a prompt to install the new hardware found (Which is your Wifi Adapter).

If it doesn't install automatically, then navigate and go to where the driver is located on your system hard drive or flash drive.

After this, ensure that it is On, then Scan for wireless networks.

It should work like that.

(In case you dont know how to uninstall the Adapter, Right-Click on my computer Icon, Properties, Device Manager, then select the Adapter under network adapters, and right click on it, then select uninstall.)

Hope this helps.

Toshiba Satellite AC Adapter?

You can use an adapter with a lower or the same voltage, but not higher voltage. Also it should have similar amperes. Also it needs the same polarity. That's the +/- indicator. This page has a positive polarity symbol:

There's no need to pay ridiculous amounts of money for an exact brand name adapter.

Discharging Battery

hmmm..try to run it with battery out completely, just from the power cord.

also, does the battery have one of those surface charge indicators, with the sliding scale?

also, plug the unit in overnight, off, and see if the adapter will charge the battery.

sometimes, you get voltage, but no current, and when the computer/battery come on line, the load will drop the adapter.

does the adapter light stay on, when connected to computer?

Trouble booting up laptop

Goto a radioshack and ask if they can give you a replacement AC adapter for the computer. Bring the computer with you so that they can match it up. If the computer charges and works with the new adapter, it was the plug/adapter that you were using. If it still does not turn on, it may be a problem with the socket for the power adapter and you will need to have a certified repair technician take a look at it
