Question about Canon imageRUNNER 8500 Copier

Canon iR8500 with Error E000583-0001

After a paper jam, this error code is appearing on the printer. I've cleared out all the paper spots I could locate, and checked for torn paper left inside. I'm fairly confident it's all out. The machine has been shut off by the switch as well unplugged. The machine boots up and immediately shows this message each time. I'm aware of the service mode and have opened the machines up a few times to work on them so I'm fairly familiar with some of their internal workings.     I have the same problem and have done as the posted solution advises. Upon closing the door, the screen flashes asking for the standard account and password and then goes immediately to the error screen. I can hear briefly hear what sounds like gears slipping before this happens. Any other thoughts/solutions.

Hello Jeremy,
This error code has to do with your finisher. The auxillary tray is not finding its home position or does not leave the home position within the alotted time. Check for binds. I have limited exposure to the K4/3 finisher but try this. Turn the copier off, and open one of the finisher doors. Now turn the copier back on with the finisher door open so it cannot initialize. Once the copier is basically ready except the finisher door is open, close the finisher door and observe all the **** (and theres alot) initialize. This may help determine the problem. This error is associated with either a sheet of paper blocking the paper path or a partial piece of paper that blocks path or trips a sensor. The printer will usually throw up a error code 13.XX on the display and the XX is a number that will indicate where in the paper path this error most probably occurred. Just follow the steps for your error on the below chart.

This error is caused by a defective paper control PCA Replace paper control PCA. 13.2 PAPER JAM OPEN INPUT TRAYS Paper-stopped jam at paper-feed area. 1. Check the input area for obstructions such as paper in the path. Also check to see if the registration assembly is damaged or if the transfer roller is out of place. 2. Replace any defective sensors or flags. 3. Ensure the media does not exceed the maximum length. 4. If multiple sheets are feeding, it might be necessary to fan the media and reduce the stack height. Also, replace separation pad. 5. Verify that the fuser is properly installed. On NX engines this is an input jam. 13.20 PAPER JAM CHECK REAR DOOR Media stopped in the paper path during power on or when the top door was closed. 1. Remove all media in the paper path, and then open and close the top cover. 2. If the message persists after all media is removed: Check if media is jammed in the prefeed area. Replace any defective sensors or flags 13.21 DOOR OPEN JAM The top cover was open while printing. 1. Clear the jam and close the top door. 2. Check the transfer roller and small media belt to ensure they are operating and can feed print media. 2. Error 3 is showing it also says swith off and on


this error mean : paper jam (location) it mean a non specific paper jam occored
follow this step to fix:
1. remove jammed media fro the specified location
2. verify the paper tray is fully closed
3. inspect and/or replace the feed and separation roller
4. ensure there is no obstruction on the path, such as a torn piece of paper
5. open and close the top cover to clear the messaage
6. check sensors andflags for proper operation

If paper is jammed, a Paper jam message will appear on the control panel display.

Follow these steps to clear the jam:

  1. Gently pull any jammed paper out of the output tray or sheet feeder.

  2. If the paper is stuck inside, turn off the Epson Stylus CX.

  3. Open the scanner, remove the jammed paper and torn pieces, close the scanner, and turn the Epson Stylus CX back on.

If paper jams inside the Automatic Document Feeder, clear the jam as follows:

Paper is not jammed, however the error screen comes up everytime with the comments.... paper output slot the paper is jammed. clear the paper and press ok. press ok and it goes back to the same screen. ...


try to check inside your printer some small torn papers must have been left inside the mechanism of the printer and that it can detect that is why it keeps prompting a window saying it is jammed.

Constantly jams


Xerox has some good information on their web site regarding troubleshooting problems with their printers. I'd first suggest you visit there for help. As for general jam problems, try to determine where the paper is jamming. If it is a feed problem, for example, you can clean the feed rollers with Isopropyl Alcohol or run them over the sticky side of clear packing tape to clean them. If the paper is folding or getting stuck somewhere, look for what might be blocking it. I've seen this happen when one page jams and the page is torn and part is left in the printer. I've also seen situations where labels were put through the printer and some got free and stuck to the inside of the printer causing jams. If you can provide a bit more detail on where the jam is located, we can help you find the cause.
